CLAMP FOR HORSE-COLLARS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN REEDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Collegeview, in the county of Lancaster and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and .useful Improvements in Clamps for Horse- Qollars, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for holding the throat of a horse-collar while being repaired and it consists of jaws actuated by a screw having a curved contour to fit the curve of the throat and in the groove provided for the hames and hames-fastener.
The object of my invention is to securely hold the collar and a piece of leather or some other patching material while being sewed together.
The advantages of my invention will fully appear hereinafter and by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of my invention; Fig. 2, a top plan view, and Fig. 3 a bottom view.
Referring to the drawings, in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, A indicates a suitable base having a slot (1 therein, and B a plate secured on said base A and having a longitudinal slot 6 therein over the slot at. C represents a standard mounted on said plate B, having a crescent-shaped jaw D secured thereto.
E indicates a plate slidably mounted on plate B, being held in slot 1) by means of bolts e and plate E on the lower side of plate B.
F represents a standard secured to plate E having a jaw G secured thereto, having a curved edge 9 to fit the inner curve (1 on the jaw D. Jaws D and G are bent downward from their meeting edges d and g, as shown at d and g.
H represents theoperating-shaft journaled in standard C, having a screw-threaded portion h to fit a screw-threaded bore I in standard F, and J a crank on shaft H to rotate it.
K represents a rest on base A to hold the upper part of the collar While the throat is being repaired.
From this description it will readily appear that the collar while being repaired is secured between the jaws D and G, the leather or other material used being inserted between the jaws at the same time and held tightly clamped while being sewed to the collar. The downwardly-bent portions 01 and g form convenient rests for the operators hands while mending the collar, being bent sufficiently to make the operation of sewing comfortable.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- A clamp for horse-collars comprising a slotted base, a slotted base-plate secured over the slot in the base, a standard secured to said plate, having a smooth bore therethrough, a curved plate secured to said standard having a segmental edge, a standard slidably mounted in the slot in said base-plate, having a screw-threaded bore therethrough, a curved plate secured to said slidable standard and having a curved edge to fit the segmental edge on the other plate, the two curved plates, when brought together, resembling a substantially circular plate bent downwardly on one of its diameters, a shaft journaled in the smooth bore in said secured standard and having screw-threads to mesh with a screwthreaded bore in the other standard, and a rest secured to the base, substantially as shown and described.
