CLAMP FOR GLUING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 772,254, dated October 11, 1904.
Application filed December 23, 1903. Serial No. 186,384. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHN O. Rnc wne, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clamps for Gluing, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to means to secure the finished edges of boards or other substances together after glue has been placed thereon and to hold them in that position until the glue has set, so that they will not fall apart; and the object of my invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and reliable clamp for that purpose. I accomplish this object by means of the device described herein and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved clamp, the stock-piece being partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the head of my clamp partly broken away for purposes of better illustration. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on line 3 8 of Fig. 2 looking in the direction indicated by the arrow marked thereon. Fig. A is a front view of the adjustable stop. Fig. 5 is a view of the head-securing bolt.
In the drawings, A represents the stockpiece, preferably made of wood and of any suitable length and diameter adapted for the use to which the clamp is to be put. This stock-piece has on both sides and on the bottom a transverse groove A for the reception and engagement of the flanges B on the headstock B, which, together with the bindingbolt F, will prevent any longitudinal movement of the head-stock when in place onthe stock. Upon the head stock is slidably mounted the face-plate C. This face-plate has a longitudinal movement along the head-stock. This movement is imparted to the face-plate by the rotation of the crank D, the screwthreaded shank D of which passes in screw-' threaded engagement through the lug B on the head-stock. The inwardly-projecting end D of the shank is provided with a lug adapted to enter the vertical guideway C in the face-plate and be workably held therein. On the tail end of the stock-piece I provide an adjustable tail-stop E. This stop is provided on its under edge with a plurality of teeth E, adapted when the clamp is being used and pressure is placed thereon, as when the clamp is being operated on any material therein, the teeth will be thrown against and pierce the bottom of .the stock A and hold the stop rigidly in place on the stock-piece A and prevent it from slipping. This arrangement of the parts will be such that the device will rigidly clamp any substance between the stop and the face-plate, and any desired pressure can be placed thereon without danger of breaking any of the parts or of any of the parts slipping on the stock-piece.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is
A gluing-clamp comprising a stock having transversely-disposed grooves in its sides and bottom, a head-stock therefor having flanges to enter said groove in said stock, a bolt passed through said head-stock and stock to rigidly secure the former upon the latter, a face-plate mounted to slide longitudinally upon said head-stock and formed with a ver tically-disposed T-shaped recess in its outer end, a lug upon said head-stock having a screw-threaded opening formed therein, and a crank having a screw-threaded shank to pass through said screw-threaded opening and formed on its inner end with a T-shaped head adapted to work in the similar-shaped recess in said face-plate to efiect a swiveled connection between said head and shank, and a tailstock adjustably mounted upon said stock, substantially as described.
