Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN AIOHELE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Clamps for the Cross- Bars of Ice-Cream Freezers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a clamp for attaching the cross-bar to the tub of an ice-cream freezer which will securely fasten the cross-bar to the tub and which will allow of the ready placement and removal of the bar. This object I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of an ice-cream freezer, illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of the upper portion of the freezer, showing the clamp. Fig. 3 is a View in elevation of the side of the tub opposite to that shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a plan view showing the cross-bar in position before being locked. Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4, showing the cross-bar locked. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the clamp. Fig. 7 is a perspective view of one end of the cross-bar,

Secured t0 the edge of the tub is a plate C, having openings 0 c in the present instance for the reception of the projections d d on the cross-bar D. On the side of the tub opposite the plate O is a plate E, secured to the tub by screws or other fastenings. The plate overlaps the edge of the tub, as shown in Fig. 6, to hold it rigid and to relieve the screws of strain. On the edge of the plate E are two projections e and e, between which rests one end of the cross-bar D. The projection e is undercut and is preferably made V-shaped, as shown, to fit'in a V-shaped recess d in the edge of the Crossbar D. The edge or the crossbar is beveled to fit the undercut portion ofthe projection e. To attach the cross-bar to the tub, the can is first centered and the projections d d on the cross-bar D are c c in the plate bar is dropped projections e e on the plate E, as shown in Fig. 4, the lever being raised, as in Fig. 5-. The lever is then turned, its beveled surface acting against the surface (1 of the cross-bar, forcing the bar against the undercut projection 6, as in Figs. 1 and 2, thus securely looking the cross-bar to the plate E and to the tub. As the V-shaped projection enters the recess (1 it prevents the cross-bar moving longitudinally, While the undercut and beveled portions prevent the bar lifting. Neither the cross-bar nor the lever can work loose when the mechanism is turned or reciprocated, as the lever F not only looks these parts in position, but automatically tends, under the action of gravity, to keep them tightly in place even should it be accidentally raised and afterward released.
In the form of my invention shownin Fig. 8 I form one of the two projections for holding the end of the cross-bar square, as shown at e and provide said bar with a sliding bolt F for engaging with the second one of the projections. When said bolt is retracted, the end of the cross-bar may be raised from between the two projections on the tub. If the bolt F be moved longitudinally, it enters between one of the two projections and the end O, and the opposite end of the of the cross-bar and forces said cross-bar under the overhanging portion of the projection 6 so as to securely lock it in position. If desired, instead of making the structure for locking the end of the cross-bar in position of a single casting, such as E, I may make it of two separate pieces of material of In such in position between the two ,1
passed through the openings a case I have found it advisable to shape the upper or projecting portion of the piece e so that it forms a substantially rectangular recess for the reception of the side of the end of the cross-bar, the lever F being pivotally carried by the piece 6 and acting as previously described in connection with the other forms of my invention.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination of a tub, two projections on one side thereof, one of said projections being undercut, a cross-bar having one side arranged to fit the undercut portion of said projection, and means arranged to enter the space between the cross-bar and the other projection and to force said cross-bar against said undercut projection, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a tub, two projections on one side thereof, one of said projections being undercut, a cross-bar having one side arranged to fit the undercut portion of said 1projection, a wedge-shaped lever carried by t e other projection and arranged to be forced between the said projection and the bar, substantially as described.
3. The combination of a tub, a plate secured to the tub at its edge, two projections on the plate, a cross-bar arranged to rest between the said projections, a lever pivoted to one projection and arranged to be forced between said projection and the bar, substantially as described. I
4. The combination of a tub, a plate secured thereto, said plate having two projections, one of said projections being undercut, a cross-bar having one side arranged to fit the undercut portion of said projection, and means for forcing the cross-bar a ainst said undercut projection, substantial y as described.
5. The combination of a tub, a plate secured thereto, said plate having an undercut and V-shaped projection, a cross-bar having one side arranged to fit said projection, and means for forcing the bar againstsaid projection, substantially as described.
6. The combination of a tub, a plate thereon, two projections, one of said projections being undercut, a lever pivoted to the other projection, a cross-bar arranged to rest between the two projections and to be forced against the undercut projection by the lever, substantially as described.
7. The combination of a tub, a plate secured thereto and having two projections, one projection being V-shaped and undercut, a lever pivoted to the other projection and having a beveled portion, a cross-bar arranged to rest between the two projections and having one side arranged to fit the undercut and V-shaped projections, and having a beveled portion on the opposite side against which the lever acts, substantially as described.
