CLAMP FOR MOLDS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY WVA'rsoN, a British subject, residing at El Paso, in the county of El Paso and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clamps for Molds; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has for its object to provide an improved clamp particularly designed for rigidly holding the opposed walls of a mold in relatively adjusted position.
Another object is the provision of an improved clamp which may be quickly and conveniently released to facilitate removal of the parts of the mold from the molded article.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 represents a fragmentary sectional view through a mold, illustrating the improved clamp applied to use,
Fig. 2 represents a fragmentary enlarged sectional View at right angles to Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of a part of the clamp detached.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numerals 5 indicate two of the opposed walls of a well known type of mold, which are secured to the rails or beams 6 of the supporting frame of the mold, which also includes the beams 7.
The improved clamp comprises a spacing bar 8, which is of a length corresponding to the desired distance between the side walls 5 of the mold and is provided with apertured ends 9, each receiving one of a pair of curved beaks 10 carried by a wedgeshaped plate 11, which is twisted adjacent the beaks 10, as indicated at 12. The plates 11 are tapered, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, to present a cutting edge 13*.
The plates 11 are formed with apertures 13 receiving the beaks or hooks 1% carried by the threaded shanks 15, which latter are extended through openings formed in the outer beams 7 of the frame of the mold.
The threaded outer terminals 16 of the hook shanks are received within internally screw threaded apertures formed in the heads 17 of handles 18, whereby the heads 17 may be conveniently rotated to ad Vance upon the screw threads of the shanks 15, so as to move the side walls of the mold together against the ends of the spacing bars 8.
Wear plates 19 are fitted over the apertures in the outer frame beams 7 and are formed with apertures 20 receiving the threaded terminals 16 of the hook shanks. The medial portions of the wear plates 19 are increased in thickness and are engaged by the heads 17.
In use, the plates 11 are inserted through suitable apertures in the side walls 5 or between the panels or strips forming the side walls and the spacing bar 8 is engaged in the beaks 10. The hooks 14 are subsequently inserted in the apertures 13 in the plates 11 and by advancing the heads 17 carried by the handles 18 upon the screw threads 16 of the shanks 15 the side walls of the mold are drawn together and firmly engaged against the ends of the spacing bar 8, which latter retains the walls in the desired spaced relation. After the material has matured the headed terminals 17 of the handles 18 are removed from the shanks 15 and, subsequent to the removal of the sides of the mold, the beaks 10 of the plates 11 are disengaged from the apertures in the spacing bars 8, which latter are allowed to remain in the molded article, thereby reinforcing the latter.
What I claim is:
A mold comprising walls formed of a plurality of strips arranged edge to edge, a spacing bar engaged between said walls, plates inserted between the edges of two of the adjacent Wall strips, oppositely directed beaks carried by each plate engaging one end of the spacing bar and also engaging the inner surface of the two adjacent strips,
