lid 819,488.,
Be it known that I, HARRY J. WILLIAMS, a
' citizen of the United States, residing at Meriden,-in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful 1m rovements in' Toilet-Paper.
Fixtures; and do hereby declare the follow-' ing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming'a art of this 1 pecification, and to the'letters o reference 1 marked thereon. I
This invention relates to improvements in provements bein especiallyadapged for use;
mg roun be separated into sheets.
The objects'of'the invention are to provide .a simple structure of attractive, appearance, the parts ofv which are all permanentl connected and which'will notonly hold't e roll in such manner as to afford the'greatestflfacilit in removing the sheets one at a time, but w 'ch willlo'ck to prevent the removal of the].
- jqroll as an' entirety and at the same time per mit a new roll to beplaced'inposition with ,for .use. v y Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan. view ofa' fixture embodying the present improvements, the roll v thvevigl'ieatest ease and with the certainty that be correctly positioned and held readyo of paper and the core when swung to-its open position beingshow'n in dotted lines. 4. The'body A of the fixture is of any suitable 4 is a vertica Like letters of'reference' t design adapted to be secured to the wall or other support, and projecting forwardly therepreferablymade sepascrews passing in 0111 the rear face of the body, so as'tobe'inaccessible when the. fixture is in position.
The sup orting-core for the roll is hinged i at one en on a vertical pin 1), passingvertir Specification of Letters Patent.

cally through a socketin the end of arm B, so that the core may be swung toward and from the oppositearm, but remain attached as'a permanent part of the fixture. This 0018'.lS of cast metal, and the desi is such 'thatwhile little metal is usedt e 'core is strong. It affords full circular bearing-surfaces for the interior of the roll, and the locking-pinto be presently described is provided core semicylindrical, but wit transverse circular portions in the form of circular ends 0 and circular intermediate partitions or diaphragm's c. One of the ends has the axial prolongation 0, through which the hinge-pin passes, and the other end has'a centra .boss
C, formin astop for contact with the shou1-' 5 der 1) on t e-arm B and through whichthe flocking-pin llpasses axially to engage the,
recess b" in the.'inner face of the sai arm. The said locking-pin D slides longitudinally Zin bearings in the end of the core, and one of the partitions .c and a spring E around-the normallyprojected. The inner end of the :pin on the outer side of the partition bears against a transverse cotter dto keep thepin, Y
pin may be bent, as 'usual, to form' a fingerpiece foriwithdraw' 'g the pinzwhen'the corel is to be-swun outwardly.
j-To-retard t e free rotation of the roll, the. farm B is provided'on its inner side with a a ringressed friction-brakeE, against which s q t e en of the roll 'will hear when swung into position, and it be noted that by locating the spring-pressed friction-brake on the arm to which the core is hinged theiroll will itself automaticallydepress the brake as it is quires nospecial'hand new rollis inserted.
swun'ginto position, and hence the brake rev manipulationwhen a brake Eprovided =with-edgelianges e, adapt l ed 'to enter the recess. 'Spring's'e areinter-- "zoo posed to move the brake outwardly, andlongitudinal rods F, -passing through holes f in' the flanges e, serve to retain t tioned, and hence their withdrawal requires is brake in place and limit its outward movement. 1
the removal 0? the arm from the base of the fixture.
The arm opposite the iiiction-brake may be formed, as shown, with smooth inner faces against which the roll will be ressed by the said brake. Thus the roll W' l, in efi'ect, be held between two braking-faces acting to retard its free rotation and assisting in the convenient separation of the strip into individual sheets.
The projection on the end of the core, it will be noted, is hinged in the reduced end of the supportin -arin, and the core moving around said red uced end afiords ample space for the roll to avoid contact with the opposite arm as it is swim into place.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire 'to'secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. In a toilet-paper fixture, the combination with the base and forwardly-extending supporting-arms rigid. therewith of the core provided with roll-supporting surfaces and permanently hinged at one end in. the end of one of the said arms and a lock cooperating 2:5 with the opposite arm for holding the core against movement on its hinge, and located in position to be concealed b the TOil. of pa per held by the core; substantialiy as described.
2. In a toilet-paper fixture, the 0on tion with the base and foi'waiwlly-exte din supporting-arms rigid therewitli, of the having circular bearing-surfaces for the roll, axial extensions onthe core, one of Wbi movable longitudinally to form a lock adapted to engage a recess in one arm, and a permanent hinge connection between the other axial extension and the end of one of the sup-- porting-arms; substantially as described.
