HlTCHlNG-POST STRAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 10, 1906.
Application filed April 30, 1904- Serial No. 205,815.
Said invention consists, primarily, of in-- terlocking parts or members connected to a hitching-strap, so as to effect automatically the clasping of the strap u on a fixture or post as said strap is loopec thereover, and also of a spring for aiding the suitable impingement or holding of the sliding clasp member at the required point of adjustment along said strap.
mg the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a hitching-strap with the clasp members applied thereto. Figs. 2 and 3 are detached perspective views of said clasp members; and Fig. 4 is a cross-section produced through said strap and the clasp member whose retention is aided by a spring,
more clearly disclosing the operative position of the last-named.
In the carrying out of my invention 1 employ in connection with a hitching-stra 1 or like means two clasp members 2 an 3, respectively. One clasp member 2 consists of a loop or stirrup, preferably approximately rectangular in general outline, having a longitudinally-extended slot 2 the purpose of which will be described presently, and in addition a second openin or slot 2 for the reception and through w ich is passed the strap 1 or like means. \Vithin said slot or opening 2 is loosely arranged a bowed flat spring-plate 4, whose retention in place is aided by its elongation at the ends, enabling the same to bear laterally upon the edges of the inner wall of said slot, as the convex surface of said spring-plate engages or bears upon said strap 1. Said loop or stirrup clasp member 2 is preferably somewhat curved toward its outer end, with the con- In the accompanying drawings, illustrat-.
vexity thereof forming its effective surface, as presently seen. The other clasp member 3, suitably applied to one end of the hitching-strap, being provided with an eye or opening 3 at its inner end or shank to receive and permit the securing of said end of stra thereto, is in general outline of T shape, havmg the stem of the T adapted to be received by and passed through the opening of the clasp member 2, it being inserted with the cross or top of the T presented edgewise in the plane of said 0 ening, the arms formed by the top of the T t en assuming a position transversely to the lateral portions of the clasp member 2, whereby the two clasp members will become interlocked. Said arms are beveled or inclined upon their inner surfaces, so as to more effectively engage the convex surface of the clasp member 2 as a pulling action is exerted thereon.
It is noted that in practical application the strap is passed at the end equipped with the clasp member 3 around a hitching-post or other suitable fixture and the other clasp member 2 suitably slid along said strap and the first-named clas member engaged therewith, as above in icated, when by vigorously pulling upon said strap the latter will be tightly looped or secured to said post, the two clasp members firmly interlocking with each other and the spring 4 holding the sliding clasp member 2 eflecetively against slipping along said strap. The operation of releasing or detaching the strap from said post is apparent without elaboration.
Latitude is allowed as to details herein, as they may be changed without departing from the spirit of my invention and the latter still be protected.
I claim- A device of the character described, comprising two interlocking members of arcuate or curved outline and thereby effective to conform to the outline of the hitching-post and to directly clasp or bind thereon, and having strap-receiving eye-ended terminals, whose axes are in relatively-parallel lines, one member havin an elongated opening whose axis is at a right angle to the axis of its strap-receiving eye-ended terminal, both of the openings in said member, however, being arranged in a common plane extending longitudinally or axially through said membar, and the other member having also a name to this specification in the presence of ppafiticallyg-formed termini the 1stelm th1ere two subscribing Witnesses. o eing e 'ective to pass t oug tie e ona gated opening of the opposite member, and JOSEPH AMES' 5 the arms of the cross-head thereof to engage Witnesses:
the latter member. WM. HAAs, In testimony whereof I have signed my M. KEANE.
