Description

ASYLVENUS aG. DELANO, OF GRAND BLANC, MICHIGAN.
Letters Patent No. 81,757,1dated September 1, 1868.
IMPROVBD AUTOMATIC CRADLE.
@La Segnale mmh in in tigen tettets atent mit mating nrt nt tlgcsame.
To WHoM '1r MAY ooNcEnN:
Be it known that L'SYLVENUS G. DELANO, of Grand Blanc, in the county of Genesee, and State ofMiehigan, have inven'tcd a new and useful Improvement in Automatic Cradles; and I do declare that the followingis a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters .of reference marked thereon, and beinga part of this specification.
Figure I is a perspective view of' my invention, showing the head of thecradle in thc foreground.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the opposite end of the cradle.
The saine letters indicate like parts in each ligure.
The object of this invention is to so construct an -infant's cradle, that it will avoid the necessity of being rocked by an attendant, it boing operated by clockwwork, which, while it rocks the cradle, will also, by means of a suitable fan, keep lies and other` insects from the occupant.
In order to accomplish this end, I construct a. cradlc-l ody, A, of any desired form and suitable material,
which is suspended to any proper frame, B, by means of proper journals attached.' to the adjusting-plates C at each end off the cradle. By means of sct-screws D, which pass through proper slots in the'adjusting-plates C, the cradle/body A maybe raised or lowered, at pleasure. As this cradle-body, with its occupant, isdesigned te act afsr a pendulum-,Athis adjustability is neeessary,'to insure the perfect working of the apparatus. Form instanec, for asmall infant, the cradle-body should be lower, while for a heavier one the body should be raised,
invorder to preserve'a proper balance of the whole upon the journals. Pivoted to the adjusting-plate, shown in fig. 1,-therc should be another plate, E, provided near its lower extremity withtwo pins,I', er fork, which engagewith the vibrating-lever G, and by means of whichmotion is communicated to the cradle-body from the vib1ating-leve'r.`- At the top of this vibrating-lever there may bcan adjustablejarm, H, projecting inwards over the cradle, to which a fan may leattachcd, to keep oi insects from the occupant.
Should it be desire/d to obtain motion for the fan, and at the saule time allow the cradle to remain at rest, this Acan-be done by disengaging the. vibrating-lever fromthe pins F, and turning the plate E to one side, when vthe vibrating-lever will only give motion to the fan.
Motion is communicated to the vibrating-lever by' clock-work and springs, of any ordinary construction, enclosed in the case I, which is attached to the frame.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters'latent, isl 1. The adjusting-plates C, in connection with the cradlebody A and frame B, substantially as herein described.
2. The pivotcd plate E, in connection with the vibrating-lever G, when attached and operating substantially i as and for the purposes set forth.
3. '.lhe combination of thc above-named 'parts with any suitable clock-movement, when arranged, constructed, and operating substantially as described, and for the purposes designated.
