our
ED $TATES IiTENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 10, 1906.
Application filed February 7, 1905. Serial No. 244,559.
To all whom it 771/017] concern:
Be it known that I, J OHANNES AHRENDT, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Hamburg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Improved Horse-Collar, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a horse collar which is adjustable in length and breadth and in the case of which the collarhoops, of Mannesmann tubes, serving for the adjustment and stilli'ening of the collar, lie under the leather casing of the collar in the padding. At the lower parts of the collarhoop tubes an adjusting device, also situated under the collar-leather in the padding, is arranged by means of joints, said adjusting device being capable of enabling the width of the collar to be adjusted as desired. A collar-hoop laid in the padding is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation, the contour of the collar being represented by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a section through the side part of a collar on the line A B, Fig. 1, seen from above. Fig. 3 is a plan of the adjusting device of the collar.
The two side parts band c of the collar hoops are adjustable in length by means of a bow a with two joints i and 0 and two bolts Z and m, which are displaceable in the tubes 1) and c in order that it may be possible to increase or decrease, as-desired, the height of the collar. Therefore the padding f and leather g, forming part of the collar, are divided at the lines C D and C D. The breadth of the collar is increased or decreased by drawing together or drawing apart the two parts 65 and t, which fit in each other, and which are likewise connected by joints 7L and 00, respectively, with the side tubes 1) and c. On that account the padding f and leather 9 are divided at line E F in two parts, which fit in each other. Only by using the four joints or hinges i, 0, h, and w is it possible to adjust the collar, as otherwise stresses arise or the separate parts would be strained. All the hame-tubes b, 0, (Z, t, and a lie embedded in the collar-padding f, Fig. 2, which is inclosed by the collar-leather 9, Fig. 2. The adjustment of the lower parts (Z and t is effected by a pin 1" being placed through one of the holes 1) after adjusting the part d in the part t, which surrounds it. The adjustment of the upper part of the collar is effected by displacing the bolts 1 and m in the tubes 1) and c, which are provided with any suitable fastening device.
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a horse-collar the combination of a sectional pad, sectional hames embedded therein, the pad-sections and hame-sections being mutually adjustable upon each other.
2. In a horse-collar the combination of a pad made in sections longitudinally and laterally, adjustable sectional hames embedded tlgelarein which are correspondingly adjusta e.
8. In a horse-collar a sectional pad, sectional hames embedded therein, the parts being made telescoping and adjustable.
JOHANNES AHRENDT.
