IMPROVEMENT IN HORSE-BLANKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189, 172, dated April 3, 1677; application filed February 16, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN G. Armasot' Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Horse-Blankets, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to so combine a breast-shield with an ordinary horse-blanket that the latter can be adjusted to lit horses having collars of difi'ereiit sizes.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents the blanket, which is, in the present instance, of quadrangular form, and otherwise made in the same manner as an ordinary blanket, and has holes for receiving the ends of the hames.
B is a shield, adapted to the breast of the horse, as shown, and resting at the upperedge upon the collar 1), immediately beneath the hame. This shield has ends I) for overlapping the blanket, to which the shield is connected by straps and buckles a a, or other I equivalent adjusting connections, two on each side being shown in the present case. but, more than two being used if additional sccurity is desired.
The straps a a are so arranged that by lengthening or shortening them the shield B may be raised or lowered in order to adapt it to collars, D, varying in size, it being understood that the shield is made so much larger than usual that this adjustment is permitted without danger of carrying the edges of the shield away from the front edge'ot' the blanket, so as to allow an opening between thetwo.
Another advantage of this mode of constructing and applying the breast-shield is, that it will follow the movements of the collar, caused by the backing of the horse, thus Witnesses:
HERMANN ll'lonssnnu, HARRY Snrrn.
