GAIVIE BOARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 3, 1906.
Application and July 25, 1904. Serial No. 218,00i.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY W. FISHER, a citizen of the United. States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented or discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Game Boards, of which improvements the following is a specification.
The invention described herein relates to certain improvements in game-boards, and has for its object the arrangement of supplemental or corner areas at the corners of a central or main area, the main and supplemental areas being divided into squares or spaces in such manner that one or more rows of squares on two adjacent sides of the supplemental areas will be in line with one or more rows of squares or spaces along adjacent edges of the main area.
The invention is hereinafter more fully de scribed and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 illustrates my improved gz tme-board, and Fig. 2 illustrates a modification of the same.
In the practice of the invention the main area or field A is divided into a number of squares or spaces 1 and 2 in such manner as to provide a central square or space 3. It is referred that this main area should be equilateral and have an equal number of spaces or squares along each side-as, for example, the main or central area may have three, five, seven, &c., squares or spaces on each side, making a total of nine, twentyfive, or fortynine squares or spaces in the main or central area.
The supplemental or wing areas have an equal number of squares or spaces 4 and 5, the number on each side of said wing areas being equal-i. a, three, four, or more in number-so that the wing areas or fields will be equilateral. The wing or supplemental areas are arranged in such relation to the main area that one or more of the rows of spaces along adjacent sides of the wing areas will be in line with one or more rows of squares or spaces along adjacent sides oi the main area or field. In other words, the first row or the first and second rows of spaces along the side a of the supplemental or wing area should be in alinement with. the first row or first and second rows of spaces along the side l; 01' the main area, and the first row or first and second rows along the side 0 of the supplemental or Wing area should be in alinement with the first row or first and second rows along the side (Z of the main or central area. When the first rows on adjacent sides of the wing areas are in alinement with the first rows on adjacent sides of the main area, each area will have the corner square or space in in common; but when two rows on adj a cent sides of the Wing area are in alinement with two rows on adjacent sides of the main area four squaresor spaces y of the latter will have in common a similar number of squares or spaces of the wing area.
If desired, the squares or spaces in the several areas may be colored alternately with contrasting colors. It will be understood that in lieu of line-defined squares or spaces holes or sockets for pins or balls can be arranged as described, and such constructions are included under the term squares or spaces.
It is characteristic of my improved board that the number of squares in the supplemental areas overlapping or coinciding with squares of the main area are in a way proportional to the total number of squares in the supplemental areas as, for example, in Fig. 1 each 01 the supplemental areas have nine squares and. one of those nine overlaps or coincides with one square of the main areaand, iurther, the number of squares in the su pleinental area overlapping squares in t 1e main area is so proportioned to the total number of squares in the supplemental area that there will be two or more rows of squares each way in the supplemental areas outside of the overlapping squares of said area.
I claim herein as my invention 1. A game-board havingin combination an equilateral main or central area divided into squares or spaces and wing or supplemental areas divided into squares or spaces, one or more of the corner squares or spaces of the main area forming a corresponding number of the squares or spaces of the wing areas or fields, the wing areas or fields having two or more rows of squares or spaces in each direction outside oi. the periphery of the main. area, substantially as set forth.
2. A game-board having in combination an equilateral main or central area divided into squares or spaces and wings or supplemental areas divided into squares or spaces, the corner squares or spaces of the main area forming a corner square or space of each of the Wing areas or fields, substantially as set forth.
3. A game-board having in combination an equilateral main or central area divided into squares or spaces and Wings or supplemental areas divided into squares or spaces, the corner squares or spaces of the main area forming a corner square or space of each of the Wing areas, the Wing areas having tWo or more rows of squares or spaces in each direction outside of the periphery of the main areas substantially as set forth.
4. A game-board having in combination a main or central area divided into squares or spaces and Wing or supplemental areas di vided into squares or spaces, one or more of the corner squares or spaces of the main area forming a corresponding number of the squares or spaces of the Wing areas or fields, the Wing areas having two or more rows of squares or spaces in each direction outside of the periphery of the main area.
5. A game-board having in combination a main or central area divided into squares or spaces and Wings or supplemental areas divided into squares or spaces, the corner squares or spaces of the main areas forming a corner square or space of each of the Win areas or fields, substantially as set forth.
6. A game-board having in combination a main or central area divided into squares or spaces and wings or supplemental areas divided into squares or spaces, the corner squares or spaces of the main area forming a corner square or space of each of the Wing areas, the Wing areas having 'DWO'OI' more rows of squares or spaces in each direction outside of the periphery of the main area, substantially as set fortl In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
