Description

J. B. BILLMAN CHECKERBOARD Filed March 21, 1925 Patented Oct. 6, 1.925.
JESSE B. BILLMAN, DF GUNSIGHT, TEXAS.
CHECKER BOARD.
Application led March 21, 1925. Serial' No. 17,257.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JESSE B. BILLMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gunsight', in the county of Stephens andl State i of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Checker Board, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention'relates generally to games and more particularly to a checker board, and aims to provide a device of this nature which will enable four or less players to participate in a game of checkers.
The improved checker board consists generally of an area which is identical with the ordinary checker board now commonly used and additional areas extended from the sides thereof and are of smaller area than the 0rdinary checker board.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the accompany-ing drawing, wherein- The figure is a plan view of the improved board. v
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the area within the confines of the small rectangular lines 5 is identical with the playing area of an ordinary checker board consisting of diagonal series of square faces.
'Ihe squares are alternately colored in the usual contrasting manner. A square row of square spaces are provided on the outside of the line 5, these rows being indicated by the numeral 6. The squares in the area between 85 line 5 in the square row 6v are sufficient in number to accommodate all the playing.
pieces.v Numeral 7 indicates square extensions which are checkered as the area within the llnes 5 so as to form contlnuations.
The square areas 7 Yare smaller than the square areas within the lines 5. There are four sets of playing pieces of diferent colors, each set consisting of twelve pieces which are arranged as shown in the figure. The game is played by the ordinary rules of a checker game and one player may jump any of the pieces of the other players when properl disposed in relation thereto.
ieces of-each playing set may move only diagonally forward from their starting squares 7 only until they reach the row of squares at the extreme edge opposite to the area 7 from Vwhich they started, at which time thesepieces would he made kings in the ordinary manner, and these kings may move in all diagonal directions on all playing spaces.
It is thought that the game can now be clearly'played bypersons skilled in the art of checkers without a more detailed description thereof.
It is evident that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new' is In a checker board, a square area, a plurality of rectangular areas one on each side ofv the square area, said areas having a checker board arrangement of playing spaces thereon, rectangularly disposed lines provided on the square area within the confines of the edge rows of. its playing spaces.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
JESSE BILLMAN.
