To (ZZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HUGO TAUSSIG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, Cuyahoga county, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension-Pedals, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in extension-pedals for pianos and other similar musical instruments.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character which can be readily applied to the instrument Without injuring or marring the latter.

A further object is to provide an extension-pedal that will fit pianos of any size and which is particularly adapted for use in connection with upright pianos.

A further object is to provide a construction by means of which the pedals of a musical instrument are brought within the reach of children while taking instruction and playing on the instrument and yet so arranging the same that it will not interfere with the use of the instrument by a grown person.

The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, 10 designates a supporting-frame provided with uprights mounted in base blocks 11. Said baseblocks are each provided with a reduced extension 12, forming a shoulder 13, said extension being split horizontally at 14 to form a spring-tongue 15, adapted to pass under the piano or other instrument to which my improved eXtension-pedal is to be applied. A foot-rest 16 is preferably hinged to brackets 17, which terminate in collars 18 18, arranged to slide upon the uprights 10, said collars being held in any adjusted position by means of set-screws 19. The collars 18 also serve to support a rod 20, which serves to pivotally support the auxiliary pedals 21, said pedals being provided with bosses 22 to receive rods 23, which are rigidly held in any adjusted position by means of set-screws 24, Working in said bosses. The lower ends of the rods 23 are bent laterally and curved to form engaging members 25 for the pedals 26 of the piano, said engaging members, if desired, being covered with suitable protecting material, as shown.

In practice when it is desired to use my improved extensionpedal the tongues 15 are depressed and the base-blocks forced under the piano near the ends thereof, the resiliency of the tongue serving to bind the base 'firmlybetween the piano and the fioor, and

thus rigidly securing the same, rendering an unyielding support for the frame 10. The foot-rest 16 is then adjusted to the desired height, after which the rods 23 are adjusted to engage the pedals 26, whereupon the parts are in position for use.

From what has been said it will be observed that I have produced a simple and inexpensive extension-pedal that can be securely and rigidly held in position without being positively attached to the instrument, thereby avoiding the injuring or marring of the latter by screw-holes and the like. It will be further observed that my improved extension-pedal can be adjusted to suit varying conditions and that the base-block provided with a resilient extension particularly adapts my invention for use in connection with upright pianos. It will also be seen that the parts are so arranged that they will not need to be removed when a grown person desires to use the instrument.

I claim as my invention 1. An extension-pedal comprising resilient base-blocks, a supporting-frame mounted thereon, a foot-rest adjustably mounted in said frame, auxiliary pedals also adjustably mounted in said frame, and depending pedalengaging rods carried by said auxiliary pedals.

2. An extension-pedal comprising a supporting-frame, a foot-rest, a support therefor adjustably mounted on said frame, auxiliary pedals carried by said foot-rest support, and depending pedal-engaging rods carried by said auxiliary pedals.

An extension-pedal comprising a supporting-frame, a foot-rest, a support therefor adjustably mounted on said frame, auxiliary pedals carried by said foot-rest support, and depending pedal-engaging rods adjustably mounted in said auxiliary pedals.

4. An extension-pedal comprising a supporting-frame, a foot-rest, a support therefor adjustably mounted on said frame, auxiliary pedals carried by said foot-rest support, and depending pedal-engaging rods carried by said auxiliary pedals and provided with laterally-extended arms. 5. An extension-pedal comprising a supporting-frame, a foot-rest, a support therefor adjustably mounted on said frame, auxiliary pedals carried by said foot-rest support, depending pedal-engaging rods carried by said auxiliary pedals and having laterally-extended arms, and means for adjusting said pedalengaging rods. 6. An extension-pedal comprising a supporting-frame, a foot-rest, brackets for said foot-rest adjustably mounted on said frame, auxiliary pedals supported by said brackets, and depending pedal-engaging rods carried by said auxiliary pedals.

An extension-pedal comprising a supporting-frame, a foot-rest, brackets for said foot-rest adjustably mounted on said frame, a rod supported by said brackets and carrying auxiliary pedals, and depending pedal-engaging rods carried by said auxiliary pedals. 8. An extension-pedal comprising a supporting-frame, a foot-rest, brackets for said foot-rest adjustably mounted on said frame, a rod supported by said brackets and carrying auxiliary pedals, depending pedal-engaging rods carried by said auxiliary pedals and provided with laterally-extended arms, and means for adjusting said pedal-engaging rods. 9. An extension-pedal comprising resilient base-blocks, a frame supportedthereby, and

auxiliary pedals mounted in said frame.

10. An extension-pedal comprising baseblocks each provided with a resilient tongue, a frame supportedthereby, and auxiliary pedals mounted in said frame.

11. A11 extension-pedal comprising baseblocks each of which is split horizontally to form a resilient tongue, a frame supported by said blocks, and auxiliary pedals mounted in said frame.

12. An extension-pedal comprising baseblocks each provided with a reduced extension forming a shoulder, said reduced portion being split horizontally to form a springtongue, a frame supported by said blocks, and auxiliary pedals mounted in said frame.

13. An extension-pedal comprising resilient base-blocks, a frame supported thereby, and auxiliary pedals mounted in said frame and provided with depending pedal-engaging rods.

14. An extension-pedal comprising resilient base-blocks, a frame supported thereby, and auxiliary pedals adjustably mounted in said frame and provided with adjustable depending pedal-engaging rods.
