' a citizen of the United States, residing at useful Improvements in Filing-Cases, of which .the following is a description, reference being I New York, in the countyof New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and had to the accompanying drawings and to the numerals of reference thereon.

My invention relates to filing-cases, and has for its principal object to provide a novel form of filing case or drawer of the movablefront type in which the front may be opened in an upward direction and, be disposed in the plane of the top of the case or box. A further object of the invention is to improve the hinge or pivot arm constructionl so that when in closed position the weight of the movable front will be imposed on the bottom of the case and will not hang loose when the case is removed from the pigeonhole or cabinet space, and in this connection a further object is to so arrange and construct the hinge or hinges that the front may be locked in open position. 7

With these and otherobjects in view, as will more fully'hereinafter appear, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a filing-case constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same, showing the open position of the front in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the front and its'hinge members detached.

Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.

The main portion or body of the case includes a top 10, abottom 11, sides 12 and a back piece 13. The front end of the side members are extended forward to the front' end of the bottom piece, and the upper edges thereof are cut at the front of the top member to form, in connection with the frontedge of the latter, a pair of short vertical walls or shoulders 14, the height of which is' equal to. or slightly greater than the thickness of the movable front 15, and the latter is preferably provided with the usual front plate or pull 16.
