PIVQTAL SUPPORT FOR PIANO-PANELS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1905.
Application filed April 15, 1905. Serial No. 255,718.
To roll whom 212% may concern:
Be it known that LWVILLIAM H. MA'roHE'r'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Pivotal Supports for Piano- Panels, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to supporting devices for supporting the front panels of pianos.
Prominent objects of the invention are to provide a simple, practical, and inexpensive supporting device to allow for the easy and ready removal of the front panel from the piano, and a similarly easy and ready replacement of the same in its proper position, and to accomplish the foregoing and other desirable results in a simple and expeditious manner.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a portion of the front of the piano, having a supporting device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section taken on line 2 2, Fig. 1. Figs. 3 and i are detail views of the supporting device on a larger scale.
I have shown in the drawings a portion of a piano consisting of an upright end portion 1 and a top portion 2. A front panel 3 is supported in the usual place below the top 2, which latter is desirably made either removable or hinged, so that it can be swung back to open up the interior of the piano.
The panel 3 is supported by a clip 4:, having a prong or finger 5, and a slot 6 located in the rear of the prong 5 and running upward alongside thereof. A screw 7 is inserted in the end of the panel 3 and is of such size that its shank is adapted to fit and slide in the slot 6 of the clip 4. The head of the screw 7 is larger than the slot 6, whereby the screw is held or engaged by the clip 4:. It is understood, of course, that each end of the pianoframe 1 is provided with a clip 4, which clips are conveniently secured in position by screws 8 8, and each end of the panel 3 is correspondingly provided with a screw 7, so that the two screws 7 7 fit and slide in the slots 6 6. By turning the screws 7 7 one way or the other an adjustment of their heads can be secured to permit a perfect adjustment of the panel between the upright end portions 1 1. By such arrangement it will be seen that the panel 3 can be hung by simply lowering it along the inner edge 9 of the supportingpost at the corner of the piano, and thus the screws 7 7 will engage the prongs 5 5 and be deflected into the slots 6 6, down which said screws will pass. Upon arriving at the bottom of these slots the screws 7 7 come to rest, as upon bearings, so that these clips with their screws 7 7 form pivotal supports for the ends of the panel.
It will be understood that changes and modifications can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A supporting device comprising a clip i having a prong 5 extending out beyond the edge of the clip, and aslot located within the prong 5 in combination with a pivot adapted to fit and work in the slot 6.
2. A clip comprising a body portion and a prong 5 extending laterally outward from the body portion, which latter is provided with a slot 6 extending alongside of the body portion 5.
In witness whereof I hereunto subscribe my name this 8th day of March, A. D. 1905.
WILLIAM H. MATOHETT.
