Be it known that I, HERMAN BELLMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Desk-Drawers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in bill and paper files and adapted especially for use in drawers for cabinets, etc, and comprises various details of construction and combinations and ar-' rangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.

I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which I Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet in which a set of drawers embodied inmy invention may be mounted. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the drawers, showing the bill or paper folding means applied there to. Fig. 3 is a detailed view of the resilient paper or bill holding device mounted within one end of the drawer. Fig. 4 is a similar View of a holding device slightly modified as to shape, and Fig. 5 is a detailed view showin a slight modification in the manner of ho ding the paper holder in the drawer.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a cabinet which may be of any suitable size or shape and B is a superstructure, comprising an inclined rack B upon which a slate or memorandum book may be held, and O designates drawers mounted within the cabinet. Each of said drawers, a perspective view of one of which is shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, is preferably divided by a central partition D into two compartments E and F and adapted to receive bills or any papers which it may be desired to file away.

K designates a leaf spring which is fastened within one of said compartments and cooperated with the resilient wire N to hold one or more bills or papers within the compartment of the drawer. Said wire N is a made of such a shape that portions thereof N will be normally held against the opposite side walls of the drawer by friction, while each end of the wire is bent to form a hook O, shown clearly in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings. Said hooked ends are adapted to be sprung together and caught over the shank portions of the headed pins R, which are fastened to the bottom of the drawer, thereby securely holding the ends of the wire within the drawer. Said hooked end also provides means whereby the wire may have a hinged action by allowing the bail portion thereof near the end of the box to be raised when it is desired to withdraw or replace a paper in the drawer. i

In Fig. 4 of the drawings, I have shown a slight modification of the wire in which the bail portion has an inwardly bent part T and also the indentures T formed in the arm thereof, thus serving to hold bills or papers of any kind out smoothly.

In Fig. 5 of the drawings, I have shown a modification of the invention, in which the pins or lugs for holding the wire are dispensed with and form holes in the side walls of the drawer in which the ends of the wire may spring allowing the wire to have a pivotal connection.

It will be noted from the foregoing that, by the provision of the apparatus illustrated, a simple and efiicient means is afiorded whereby papers may be readily held in place within the drawers of a cabinet and so arranged that the papers may be easily withdrawn or replaced as may be desired.

What I claim to be new is A device for holding bills, papers, etc., comprising a drawer, a resilient bail-shaped wire having portions thereof normally held by the resiliency in the wire against the opposite side walls of the drawer, each end of the wire being bent to form oppositely disposed hooks, headed pins rising from the bottom of the drawer and adapted to be engaged by said hooked ends, and a leaf spring fastened to the drawer intermediate said pins, as set forth.
