My invention relates to packet-holders andits object is to provide a convenient means for tying or fastening together letters and other like articles.
Another object is to provide means whereby one or more letters can be conveniently removed from or placed in position within the packet without 'disarranging the otherletters contained therein.
A still further object is to provide a packet-. holder which can be placed in position with-, out danger of tearing. or otherwise injuring the articles contained therein.
- With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of a main band formed.
of elastic material and adapted to be placed around the packet, and to one edge of this band is fastened a securing-band extending at right angles therefrom. This securing-b and is slidably mounted within a loop, which in turn isslidably connected to the main bandof the packet; A fastener of peculiar construction is provided for connecting the free end of the securing-band to the main band. The invention also consists in further novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed. In the accompanying drawings I .-have shown the preferred form of my invention.

- Referring to .the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is an elastic band, the ends of which are secured together in any preferred manner, as by folding them so as to interlock and then sewingthem together, as shown at 2. This'band extends througha loop 3, the

one end'to the mainbancl' I. A fastener of peculiar construction. is adapted. to connect the free end (of hand 6 to the main band 1. As shown in the drawings, this fastenerc'onsists of two members. Themember 7 is in the form of a receiving-loop having-an inte'jgral transversely: extending bar 8 between the ends thereof. One end of this member 7 is preferably secured to the'end of band 6, which is permanently fastened to the band 1, while the other end of said member constitutes a retaining-bar 11. The other member of the fastener consists of a smaller loop 9,
which is connected to the free end of band 6 and is curved to produce a lip-like portion 10 for extending over and engaging the bar 8..
Humps 12 are produced close to the lip-like portion 10.
In using the device herein described the band 6 is disconnected from the member 7 of the fastener and band 1 is placed around the package of letters or other articles to be held. After the packet has been placed in position the free end. of the band 6' is drawn over the end of the packet and the member 9 is inserted under the retaining-bar 11 of member 7 until its li -like projection 10 overlaps and engages ar 8. The humps 12 receive the bar 8 when the lip-like projection 10 is in position in engagement therewith. The band 6 is thussecurely fastened about the packet, and it becomes impossible for any of the articles constituting it to become displaced. I attach considerable importance to the sliding connection between the two bands. By providing a double loop it is possible to adjust the slide longitudinally upon either ofthe bands until their point of intersection is properly located upon the center of the packet. As thebands are formed of broad strips of elastic material, they will not tear or otherwise injure the articles constituting the packet.
Articles held by means of this device can be readily removed from or placed in position, and after the holder has been secured therearound they cannot become accidentally displaced or lost.
