DANIELS, of Boston,-in the cou'nty of Suffolk, and-State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Supporters for Stockings arid otherpurposes, of which the following is s. full, clear, and-exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part' of this specification, iu which-.-

Figure 2 is a detail to be referred to.

My invention relates to certain improvementsin supporters for stockings, and the manner of supporting diapers, &c.,flfor iiseduring the monthly period of women; and my invention consists in a sliding strap, pro* vided with a. buckleor other'fastening at each end, for holding up two sides ofthe top of the stockingfthe bight l l positions assumed by theleg.

c n n a n s l n My invention also consists in one or more straps connected with the waist or belt, tor supporting the diaper .o r otherA substitute employed by wom'errdurin'gthe'period ofthe mciises, each strap being provided with a buckle or other fastening, for readily attaching and adjusting the diaper in plsce.

Tn enable others skilled in the nrt tounderstnnd and use my invention, I will proceed to describe thc mam ner in which I have carried it out.

In the said drawingsl A. is an elastic waistband orbelt, to one end of which is securedv n buckle, a, by means of which the belt muy be readilyA adjusted lto conform to the size of the body ofthe wearer.

B B are elastic strips -or straps,`th`o upper end of each of which is secured, :rt to tue waistband A, the lowerend of each strap B being fastened to a. buckle, c, through the eyeor loop d of whichfreely slides the bight of au elastic strap, C, 'eachA of the two lower ends of which is provided with a buckle, e, which catches into :ind securely grusps the sidesot' the" top ofthe stockingfof the wearer, in order to keep itin place upon the leg after having been snugly drawn up thereon:A

The points b b, where thestrups B B are attached to the wa'istband'or beltd A, shoiild be n llittle forward of the'hips, so asto allow the straps B B to be led-n front, thereby conducting the two portions 3 4 of each of tho sliding straps C to n. point e. little above the knee, from which point they separate and proceed across the knee to opposite sides ofthe topvof the stocking, which are caught by the buckles e e at the lower ends ofthe said strap.

Straps, not sliding, 'but rigidly connected with the strap B, have heretofbro been. attached to the stocking by means of buttons sewed thereon lengaging with loops or button-holes at the ends of the said straps, but these c on'ncctions :irc 'either constantly becoming unbuttoncd or the buttons :iro falling oi.

D D are tivo short elastic stlips or straps, the upper ends of which are secured tothe waistband or belt, while the lower endsof these straps D D are-provided with buckles for securing a diaper thereto when necessary. Y

It will be seen from the foregoing that, by the employment cf the sliding straps C C, and by making the several parts of the supporters of elastic material, perfect case and freedom nrc given to thc limbs iiiall of the positions assumedby them, either at rest or in motion, the buckles also admitting of thc ready adjustmentof the parts, to conform to tho size of the body and length of the stocking of 'the wearer, thereby avoiding the objections incident to the use of buttons, and to the rigid connection ofthe straps B B with those,` C C.

If desirable, the wast-belt or strap A may bo dispensed with, and the straps B B may be attached to the weist ofthe drawers, thus especially adapting them tfor childrens use, or tho waist-beltA. and straps D'D may be retained, and tho stocking-supporters be dispensed with, without departing from the spirit of my invention.

A shoulder-brace may also b`e employed with either the stocking or diaper-supportcr, or with botlnif desired` Claim.
