TO ALL WHOM IT MAYQCONCERNA:

Be it known that I, M. P. Normal' St. Cloud, in the county of Stearns, and State of Minnesotafhave invented a. new and improved Sawing-lVI-achine; and I do herebydeelare that the following is a. full, clear, and' .exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being 'had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciication.

The object ofthis invention'is to provide an improved machine for sawing wood, and other like purposes.

It consists the arrangement, upon'a bench, of a. sliding log-holding frame, and an arrangement of means for communicating reciprocating motion to the saw by power applied to the drivingshaft; and also lan arrangement of means for presenting the saw to the log when it is to be sawed, and moving it vout oi' the way of the log and log-holding frame when the log is to be moved, as will be'more fully described on refercneeto the accompanyingdrawingrs, wherein- Y Figure l represents a side elevation, and

A represents the bed-frame of the machine, which may be supported on legs, or iin anyother suitable manner, which is provided with transverse ways a a, wherein a log-holding frame, B, is arranged, and provided witha lever, C, for sliding it-back and forth.

D represents a vertical frame, supported in the main frame A, and provided with crank-shafts d and e, and the necessary gear-wheels, connecting-rod, and a balance-wheel for reciprocating the saw.

E represents an oseillaing-frame, suspended upon an axis near the top of the frame D, and provided with 4ways c for the saw E, and 'a handle, f, for raetuating'it. Y

F represents an oscillating-frame, pivoted to the frame E atf, and provided with pendent vnotched arms y, which are intended to bear upon the top of the log, to prevent it from rolling under the action of the saw.

The frame F may he arranged so that pressure may he applied to the swinging end, if desired. 7L represents a swinging arm, piroted to the frame at z', and provided with a hook,'h',.`arranged to take on to a. pin in the frame E, to hold thc end which supports the saw up out ofthe way of the log, when it is desired to adjust the log.

When the log to he sawed is arranged inA position, the hook h is disconnected from the frame E, which permits the end which carries the saw to bel depressed, so las to bring the saw into contact with the log, the weight of that end of the frame being supported by the saw, thereby effecting the necessary pressure to cause thc saw to take hold of the woodvwitli suliicicnt force. Motion is then applied to the crank-shaft, whereby the saw is actuated, to accomplish the work. A l

H represents a wheel, connected to the frame by thc adjustable stock I, which may be set, with reference to the frame, so that, by means oi`tl1ehandles,the i'ramc may be moved from place to place by one person, without diflienlty.

I claim as new, und desire to secure by Letters Pat-ent- 1. rlhc Oscillating log-holdingl frame F, when pivoted to the oscillating saw-guide frame E, controlled by the lever L and hook it', whereby the holding-dogs g clamp the log upon each side of' the saw-holding frame, and saw-guido frame, all constructed, arranged, and operating as herein shown and described.

2. The log-fame B, operated -in the transverse guides a by the lever C only, whereby the logr is set -to the saw by one r ovement of thelever, as herein set forth.
