IMPROVEMENT IN FEATHER-RENOVATORS.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that 1', CHARLES E. HENDRICK, of Chicopee, in the county of Hampden, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement on a Machine for Renovating Feathers; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the-same reference being had to the annexed drawings,-making a. part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section taken on the line y z, fig. 2.

Figure 3 is the valve-key, containing a square socket, fitting all the valves.

This improvement comprises a new valve and steam-conveyer arrangement for feather-renovating machine.

The machine consists of supports, A,to flanged trunnions G and D, turning on bearings G, united by bolts with feather=box B, of octagon shape, having drier E running through centre, with steam-conveyer F inside, having branches, z, passing through sides of drier opening into the feathers, steam being introduced through inlet-pipe K to valve-chamber P, passing through conveyer Fand branches into feathers, by opening the valves.

0 O, and shutting the disk-valves m and n, covering the openings, L, into drier, operating in annular valvechambers P P, in trunnions G G, by turning key, fig/3, when applied to the partof the valve outside seen in fig. 1; shutting off. the steam from the feathers by closing valves 0 O, and opening the valves m and n to drier E, steam passing into valve-chamber P, to outlet 1, in trunnion D, through annular groove r around trunnion,

communicating with waste-pipe j, water passing oil through water-pipe a, handle H turning machine. Door Q, to admit feathers, closed by latch g. p

Fig. 1 represents it with four valves, thoughonlyth ree, O O mare absolutely necessary.

The operation is as follows: By closing the valves nand m when used, (if desired,) by applying the key, closing up drier E, and opening valves 0 O, to conveyer F, allowing the steam to pass into feathers, steaming them; by closing up the valves 0 O to conveyer, and opening the valves n and m, it used on machine, the steain passes into drier E, sending out heat into the feathers, drying them, and passing off.

I claim the annular chambers P P, in combination with the valves 0 O m n, and conveyer F, provided with branches i2, drier E, and feather-box B, when constructed, arranged, and operated substantially in the manner shown and described, for the purpose set forth.
