IMPROVEMENT IN SHOVEL-PLOWS.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, JACOB MEYER, of Bloom township, in the county of Seneca, and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shovel-Blows, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to theletters of reference marked thereon.

In the annexed drawings, forming part of this speciication, Figure l is a side view, and Fig.'2 is a rear View.

The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement of an upright bar which supports the whole plow, and has a metallic cross-bar attached to its upper end, which cross-bar is notched underneath, so as to hold the springs attached to the bars of the side plows in such a manner that these may be moved either in or out from the center plow.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.

A represents an upright bar of suitable dimensions, to the lower end of which a shovelplow, B, is fastened.

At a suitable distance above the plow B, on the bar A, the tongue C is fastened, to the front end of which the team is hitched in any manner desired. A metal rod, a, runs through the bar A and the top of the plow B, and is fastened to the lower or under side of the tongue C. On the bar A, just above Where the tongue is fastened, is a cross-bar, D, securely fastened to it and to the tongue. On the ends of this cross-bar D the side bars, E E, with their plows G G, are pivoted. Movable metal rods b b run through the side bars, E E, and tops of the plows G G, and are attached to the lower side of another cross-bar, F, on the tongue, at a suitable distance from the center bar, A. On the upper side of this crossbar F the ends of the arms H H are fastened. These arms are fastened on the outside of the side bars, E'E, above the joint with the cross-bar D, and extend toward the rear, forming the handles I I.

On the bottom or lower side of the side arms, E E, springs d d are attached, which extend along the handlesI I. These springs are provided with lugs e e, to fit into notches f f on the under side of a metallic cross-bar, L,which is fastened to the upper end of the upright bar A. By this arrangement the plows G G can bel moved outward from the center plow, B, by depressing the springs d d and moving the handles I I inward. rIhe lugs e e, fitting into notches f f on the cross bar L, will hold them in this position. In like manner the plows can be moved closer by moving the handles outward.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'- The upright center bar, A, provided with the notched cross-bar L, in combination with the springs d cl and the lugs e e, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
