Description

PATENTED FEB. 6, 1906 M. PBTRIE. DRIP ATTAGHMBNT FGR BOTTLES.
APPLIUATIOfi FILED HIRE 19. 1905.
MARGARET PETRIE, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
DRIP ATTACHMENT FOR BOTTLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 6, 1906.
Application filed June 19, 1905. Serial No. 266,059-
To alt whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARGARET Pn'rnm, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drip Attachments for Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in drip attachments for bottles.
The object of in invention is to provide an attachment for ottles whereby any part of the liquid contained therein is prevented from dripping or running down the exterior of the bottle and soiling any object beneath.
My invention consists in a section of absorbent materal having a plurality of central slits, whereby the dev ce adheres to the neck of a bottle.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view showin the application of the device to a bottle. ig. 2 is a plan view of the device as connected to a bottle. Fig. 3 is a view of the device without such connection.
In the figures, 1, as shown in Fig, 1, represents a bottle, showing mounted on the neck thereof my said attachment 2, consisting of a circular piece of blottin -paper or other suitable absorbing materia said device having slits 3 radiating from its center and forming the tongues 4, said tongues bein adapted by reason of their length and flexibi ity to adapt themselves closely to the neck of a bottle of any size. My device has a central orifice; but it may be modified by omitting the orifice, the points of the tongues contacting.
Although I prefer blotting-paper of good quality and the circular form for the construction of my device, other suitable material or a different shape may be adopted without departing from the spirit of my invention.
To use my device, the same is simply placed centrally over the neck of a bottle and forced down until it adheres to the slopin part of the neck, whereby it is prevented roin further descent and eiiectually absorbs or holds any part of the contents of the bottle dripping or running down such neck, which would otherwise dampen or soil any object, such as a tablecloth, in contact with the bottle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let tcrs Patent, is-
1. A drip attachment for bottles, comprising a section of absorbent material havin a plurality of slits, such slits forming inward yprc'ecting tongues of said material to secure sai attachment to the neck of a bottle, substantiall 1 as described.
a 2. A drip attachment for bottles comprising a section of absorbent material having a central orifice and a plurality of tongues of said material projecting inwardly to said onficei'or securing said attachment to the neck of a bottle, substantially as described.
3. A drip attachment for bottles comprising a section of absorbent material having a plurality of equidistant tongues projecting inwardly to a central orifice in-said attachment for securing said attachment to the neck of a bottle, substantial] as described.
In testimony whereof I a my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARGARET IETRIE.
