Description

PATENTBD JAN. 30, 1906.

UNrrnn srarris 'PATENT FFlCE.
JAY QD. MORSE, OF HOLBROOK, NEBRASKA.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patenteazran. so, 190e.
Application filed .Tune 9.1905. Serial No. 264,45 8.
useful Improvements in Posts, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in posts; and the object is to provide a post adapted to various uses and which will withstand the strains ordinarily present as a re sult of such various uses.
The. invention comprises a construction 'susceptible of employment as a fence-post,
bitching-post, and anchor-post lfor the legs or brace-arms of diilerent superstruct\n'es--l'or instance, wind mills.
` A convenient embodiment oi the invention is shown in the accompanying (.lrawings, in which like charac-.ters indicate correspoiuling parts. Figure 41 is a vertical section. Fig. 2 a transverse vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line e o, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a vertical section of the invention when designed for a fence-post only. Fig. 5 is a horizontal section on the line c a., Fig. 1, showing the means for securing the fence-wires; and Fig. 6 is a vertical section oi" the post when designed for use only as a hitching-post.
A indicates a cement post provided with an offset B for supporting a windmill leg or brace or the like E. Above theotliset the post is provided with metallic tubes E ior the reception of tie rods or wires N, adapted to hold the above-mentioned leg or brace E. Extending longitudinally, through the post are bracing-wires C, which wrap around the tubes E and at the top of the post extend.
, therewithout to form a loop O. Provided at intervals in thepost are transverse bindingwires D, which wrap around each oi the longitudinal wires in succession, the 'two ends being firmly tied together in any suitable manner. The wires Cprevent the-post from splitting or cracking, and if there is any tendvbinding-wires D,
ency for the wires C to separate they are ef.n fectually revente/d from doing so by the the whole `forming a comact, strong, and durable frame which will old the cement surrounding it and render it proof against all strainsy, The tubes E are eld rigidly in place and'displacement prevented by allowing the wires C to coil around the same, as before stated, thereby binding them tightly and eiectually securing them in their proper positions.
A projecting portion is 'Formed on the side of the post and has a series oi notches K.
The wire constituting a strand of the fence is bent into the i'orm shown at H to extend around the projecting portion P and iits into one oi the notches K. Said wire is then tightly secured by a strand F, fastened to it at the points ,l and passing around the post, as shown best in Fig. 5. The head or projecting part just referred to extends sui'licicntly high on the post to allow oi' an adjustment oi: the fence-wires to any height, and the securing-wire F exerts suilicient pull on them to causo them' to bind tightly in the notch, whereby they are prevented from ei ther longitudinal or vertical movement and are rigidly retained at all times.
lhcv loop 0 extends outside the post, as previously defined, and may be used as u ring for hitcl'iing or similar purposes.
Several embodiments oi my in vcntion have been shown; but it is to be understood that `various other modifications and changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention. i
What I claim7 and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-A 1. A post comprising a cement body portion having an oil'set at one side thereof and openings extending throughv the post above the offset to permit of securing a member upon said oil'set by means of wires passing through said openings and around the sup-y ported member.
2. A post comprising a cement body hav ing an oii'set and metalllc tubes embedded in said body above the oilsct to permit of securi-4 ing a member upon the same.
3. A post comprising a cement body, hollow metallic members embed ded transversely therein for the reception of securing-wires and braced by wires running longitudinally of the post and ceiling around said hollow members.
4. A post com rising a cement body, hollow metallic memilbers embedded transversely therein for the reception of securing means, bracing-wires running longitudinally of the post and ceiling around said hollow members, and transverse wires arranged therebetween and ceiling around said longitudinal wires.
5. A post comprising a cement body, wires IOC running longitudinally therein extending outside said body and forming et ring or Closed loop at suoli exterior point for hitching or similar purposes. A
5 6. Apost Comprising e cement body, vires running longitudinally therein and secured' together by transverse l)inding-\,vires, seid. longitudinal Wires extending outside saliti body and forming a ring or closed loop at ro suchextension or point for kite-hing or simiu lar purposes.
@were YQ 10st comprising et cement body, running ongitudinally therein, extenfling outside said body and forming 1f, .ring l loop at such exterior pointv For li siniilui purposesn In testimony whereof i in presenee of two Witt ess f signature
