Description

PATENTED JAN. 16, 1906.

APPLICATION FILED JULY 30, 1904.
l nm llllllllil Alll WITNESSES.
Br 6/: M T? ATTORNEYS RICHARD BLAZEJ, or NEW YORK, N. Y. V-BLCCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 16, 1906.
Application filed July 30, 1904. Serial No 218,870.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD ,BLAzEJ, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and a resident of the city of New York, Whitestone, borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of. New York, have invented a new and Improved V-Block, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
. The object of this invention is to provide a V-block with an attachment enablin a shaft to be drilled transversely with abso ute cer- Y tainty and to render the attachment adjust- Thisable to shafts of various diameters. end I attain by providing a peculiar gage-bar adapted to lie over the V-block on top of the shaft and connected with the V-block by means of slides mounted thereon. In connection with the V-block Iuse a support having a certain peculiar connection with the V- blslck, enabling its position to be adjusted at W1 The invention resides in certain novel features, which will be fully set forth hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is aside elevation of the invention with parts broken away. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the V-block. Fig. 3 is an end elevation thereof. Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the support, and Fig. 5 is a detail section of thegage*bar on the inc 5 5 of Fig. 3.
indicates a V-block having therein the usual V-notch 11 to receive a shaft, which is shaped, and its an 1c is vertically coincident with the angle of t e \i-notch 11.
'Coactin with the gage-bar 17 is a holder 20, forme preferably, of a section of metal bent to embrace the gage-bar and held adjustable thereon by a set-screw 21 or its equivalent. In said holder is a notch 22, reg-.
istering with the notch 19 and adapted to allow the drill to pass through the holder. this device the shaft may be centered and the drill guided into the shaft intrue central position. By adjusting the slides 14 a shaft of any size may be held, and by adjusting the ho der 20 a drill of any size may be employed.
The shaft-holder comprises a block 23, having a notch 24 therein similar to the notch 1 1. A yoke 25 is pivotally mounted on the block 23 by means of screws 26 or their equivalents, and said yoke carries a screw 27, adapted to be engaged with the shaft, as shown, thus securely holding the shaft. The blockslO and 23 are connected adjustably by means of a rod28 extending through coinciding openingsin the blocks, the end of the rod adjacent to the block 10 being threaded and provided with a thumb-nut 29 and the opposite end thereof being formed with annular teeth, coacting with which is a sliding lock-plate 30, operating in undercut grooves in the block'23 and capable of holding the rod 28 in any desired position in the block 23. By properly manipulating the devices 29 and 30 the blocks 10 and 23 may be moved toward or from each other, as desired, and then looked securely in this adjustment. In using the device the shaft, after the blocks 10 and 23 have been properly adjusted, is placed in the notches 11 and 24, and the screw 27 is tightened to hold the shaft in place. The gage-bar 17 is next moved into position over the shaft, and then by entering the drill through the opening 22 and guiding it against the walls of the notch 19 the shaft may be bored accurately, as explained.
Various changes in the form, proportions, and details of my invention may be resorted to at will without departing from the spirit and scope thereof. Hence I consider myself entitled to all such variations as may lie within the terms and intent of my claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of a V-block having an opening therethrough, a work-holding device having a corresponding opening therethrough, a rod extending throu h said openings and provided with threads om one end and annular teeth from the other, a nut on the threaded portion of the rod, and means on the work-holding device for engaging said teeth to'hold the \I-block and saidworkholding device in adjusted relation to each other.
i 2. The combination of a V-block proper, a
' horizontal gage bar, verticallyadjustable .mounted on the gage-bar, and means for securing the tool-holder to the gagebar, the latter and the toolholder having opposite notches therein to admit an operating-tool.
3. The combination of.a V-block proper, a horizontal gage bar, vertically adjustable means sustaining the gage-bar over the V- block, a horizontally-adjustable tool-holder mounted on the gage-bar, and means for securing the tool-holder to the gage-bar, the tool holder being U -shaped and fitting thegage-bar transversely thereof, and the latter and the tool -holder having corresponding notches therein to admit a tool.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of tWo subscribing Witnesses.
RICHARD BLAZEJ.
