Description
JOHN HAMMOND,*OF LATTISBURG, OHIO.
Letters Patent No. 80,947, dated August'll, 1868.
IMPROVD MACHINE FOR HANDLING HIDES.
@In Stiga-hule Infant tu in tlgrse trtttrs @that mit mating part nf tige sume.
'ro ALL wHoM '1T MAY GONCERN':
Be it known that I, JOHN HAMMOND, of L attisburg, in the county of Wayne, and in the State of Ohio, have invented an Improvement for Handling Hides; .ind do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. I
The nature ofrmy invention consists in an arrangement for pntting hides into vats, and taking them out of thes'nme, by which it can be done with more ease than by the ordinary method.
' In order to enable others skilled in the art lto make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawingv in which- Figure 1 is a side section, and
Figure 2 is a plan view.` 1
representsra. et, which is provided at one end with two ways or cleats, B B, one on each side thereof.
C represents a. frame, on which the hides are hung, as shown in the drawings.
This frame is placed .inside of the vat A, and between thecleats or ways B B, and is provided with rollers,
a a, pivoted on theoutside of the frame, which rollers run on the cleats, so that the frame can easily be moved up or down in the vat. l
s, which form a part of this specification, and
The u'pperends of the cleats or ways are grooved or notched, so that these rollers may rest therein when thelframeis moved upwardl. The end of the frame BV then .rests on the top of the vat, and makes it easy for the operator to insert or take out the hides. I
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as nem-and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Theframe C, provided with the rollers a a, in'combination with the cleats, B B, on the sides of a vat, for the purpose of easier handling the hides, substantially as herein set forth and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 18th day of May, 1868.
JOHN HAMMOND. Witnesses:
J. H. CARR, W. H. Ross.
