To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BYRD O. ROCKWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gifford, in the county of Hot Spring and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Window-Screen, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to adjustable Window-screens, and has for its object to provide a novel form of slidable connection between screen-sections. In this connection it is designed to provide an improved form of metallic clip to form a slidable connection between the screen-sections and to constitute a stop for limiting the slidable movement of the sections.
With these objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation of the inner face of a screen-section, showing one of the improved clips fitted thereto. view of a complete screen in its closed condition. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view on the Figs. 4 and 5 are detail views of one of the clips.

Referring at first more particularly to Figs. 4 and 5 of the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that the present clip is formed from a single blank of plate metal 1, which is bent along its longitudinal center to give the plate a substantially V shape in crosssection. One of the angular sides of the clip or plate is provided with three transverse slits or clefts extending entirely across said side, and the material between the clefts is bent to produce the ears or wings 2 and 3, of
which the ear or wing 2 constitutes a continuation of the other side of the clip and the ear or wing 3 is bent to lie at substantially right angles to the ear 2. The opposite longitudinal edges of the plate are provided with edge slits or clefts 4 to permit of the Fig. 2 is a plan edges of the plate being bent to form spurs or prongs 5. L: ii111; To illustrate the application and operation of the present clip, there has been shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings one section 6 of an ordinarv adjustable screen, the longitudinal frame-bar 7 of which is provided in its inner face with a pair of grooves or saw-kerfs 8 and 9, which intersect at the inner face of the frame-bar and diverge therefrom, with their outer ends intersecting the outer end of the frame-bar. One of the present clips is slid into the open ends of the saw-kerfs, so as to receive the angularly-related sides of the clip in the respective kerfs, the clip being driven longitudinally of the kerfs until stopped by the inner ends thereof, the prongs .or spurs 5 serving to retain the clip in the kerfs and prevent looseness thereof. As indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, it will be noted that each screen-section is provided with one of these clips, with the ears or wings 2 and 3 slidably engaging the kerfs of the other screen-section, whereby the screensections are held against lateral separation and may be slid endwiseto open and close the screen. When the screen-sections are drawn out to their limit, the clip of one section contacts with the clip of the other section, and thereby prevents entire separation of the screen-sections. It will of course be understood that the top and bottom frame-bars of each screen-section are provided with the intersecting kerfs and one of the clips, the clip of one section working in the kerfs'of the other section, whereby the screen-sections are held against lateral separation at their tops and bottoms. As best shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, it will be noted that the frame-bars of the screen-sections are permitted to come into mutual contact, so as to avoid any open space between the screen-sections, through which flies and other insects might pass.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is Y 1. As a new article of manufacture, a clip of the character described consisting of a plate which is substantially V shape in crossseotion and provided with angularly-related ears bent from the plate and extending from the apex of the clip.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a clip of the character described consisting of a plate which is substantially V shaped in cross-section and provided with angularlyrelated ears projecting beyond the apeX of.
the clip and forming continuations of the respective sides thereof.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a clip of the character described consisting of a metallic plate bent throughout its longitudinal center to give the same a substantially V shape incross-section, one of the sides of the clip being provided with a plurality of transverse clefts and the material between the 1 clefts being bent to produce angularly-related ears extending from the apex of the plate.
