To ALL WHOM 1T MAY QONCERN:
Bel it known Athat I, ANDREW O. YAWGER, of Newark, in the county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have Vinvented an Improved Removable Barrel-Head; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference murkedthereon. v
My invention consists in the mode employed of putting the centre-piece of a burrelhead in its place, and of removing it when required, without injuring any part ofthe heed, and without disturbing the hoops..
One end of the piece C is putin its place in the croze of the stave D, the other end is then pressed down between the pieces B, a part -of'the stave E having been cut away above the croze, to allow it to come down upon the shoulder formed by the lower side of the croze.` Then, by a. simple device, the piece C is held in its place, or maybe readily removed. One way of securing this piece is by a small plate, F, of wood or metal,
crowded against the chime in a. prepared croze, covering the end ofthe piece C, and extending on tothe pieces A B. This plate is held by one or more screws firmly in its position. l
Other modes of fastening this piece O wllfbe readily suggested. One is by e piece of-iron or wire, bent sothat the two ends shall pass into the staves, over the pieces A B, and made fast `to the head by one or more screws, as in the case of the plate F.
I do not claim'as new a movable strip to allow a'barel-head to be taken out or put in at pleasure; but
I claim the pieces A and B, when used in connectionvivithpiece O of' a. barrel-head, and held in place by means of piece F and screw G, all constructed and operatingnsubstantially as set forth.
