COUPLING FOR BRUSH-HEADS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 1905.
Application iiled May 26, 1904. Serial No. 209,871.
To @ZZ whom, it wbr/ty concern:
Be it known that I, GARDNER P. COPP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the county of San J oaquin and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Couplings for Brush- I-Ieads 3 and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in couplings for brush-heads g and it consists in the effective and simple construction hereinafter set forth.
My object is to produce a fountain-brush particularly adapted for use in the cleansing of buggies, though applicable for other purposes in general. This object I obtain by the peculiar construction and relative arrangements of parts herein fully specified, and particularly pointed out in the claim appended.
Referring now to the drawings, Figure l represents a sectional view of my improved coupling applied to a fountain-brush. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of my improved coupler detached from the brush and on anenlarged scale.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
1 designates the handle of a brush adapted to receive my improved coupler, which handle is made, preferably, of wood. Said handle has an enlargement or head 2 at its lower end, in which enlargement are suitably embedded the bristles 3.
Inside the handle l is a chamber 4:, extending downward to about the top of the enlargement 2. A plurality of vents 5, running at any desired angle through the enlargement 2, lead from the bottom of the chamber 4 to the bottom of the said enlargement 2.
6 is a female coupling provided with a reduced end member 7. Said member 7 has two or more iianges 8 on its lateral face and is also provided with corrugations or bitingteeth 9.
In the making of my improved device the member 7 is pressed down into the chamber 4, and the flanges 8 and the teeth 9, engaging with the wooden sides thereof, hold said member securely fastened in said chamber.
I have now entered into a detailed description of the construction and relative arrangement of parts embraced in the present and preferred embodiment of the same. I do not desire, however, to be understood as confining myself to such specific details, as such changes and modifications may be made in practice as fairly fall within the scope of my claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A coupling for brush-heads, comprising an elongated tubular male member provided on opposite sides with elongated longitudinallydisposed flanges, and on other opposite sides with transversely-disposed corrugations, and having an annular outwardly extending iiange on its outer end, and a female member having an inturned iiange at its lower end to engage with the flange on the male member, and having interior threads, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GARDNER P. COPP.
