UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HAIR-ROLL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 21, 1905.
Application filed June 15, 1904. Renewed April 1 1905. Serial No. 253,235.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES V. DOssoNE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Rolls, of
which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, of which-- Figure 1 is a front elevation, the fabric being partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is an outline plan View.
This invention relates to rolls that are designed for the use of women to support the hair, the latter being brought over and upon the roll, and the object being to provide such a roll that shall belight and elastic and adapted mainly to be applied. to and support the hair on the front and sides of the head of the wearer.
The exact nature of the invention will appear from the following description, reference being had to the drawings.
In carrying out my invention I first make a suitable length a of elastic wire braided into tubular form, which I flatten at the middle Z) and bend back the same and then flatten the free ends 0 and bend them over inwardly and secure the bent-over ends by any suitable means. The finished roll will be in approximately U form, but the two limbs d thereof extending back from the flattened middle in more or less curvilinear form, as seen in Fig. 2.
In using the roll it is laid on the head with the said limbs directed backwardly and the hair is brought up over and upon the roll in the manner well known to women.
Usually I would cover the roll with a net ting e, of cotton or the like, of a color to match the hair and secure the netting to the free ends of the limbs of the roll by suitable meansas, for example, by eyelets fpassing through interstices of the netting and braided wire.
I remark that if the concavity of the roll be not such as may fit the head of the wearer where the roll is applied the elasticity of the braided wire will cause it (the roll) to lie close to the head when the hair is brought over the roll and secured in the usual Way.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The hereinbefore-described hair-roll, comprising an integral piece of elastic braided wire in tubular form flattened and bent midway of its length into U shape, the limbs thereof curving backwardly from their j unction, and their free ends flattened, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature this 23d day of May, A. D.
CHARLES V. DOSSONE. WVitnesses:
GEO. L. RoTE, WALTER O. PUsEY.
