Description
` Mms. PHOTOJJTHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON D C @eine 'mes @anni @para To ALL wHoM IT MAY o'oNoEaN:
FRANK GoLL1e0N`,0F BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 80,457, dated July 28, 18.68..
IMPROYED LUBRIQATING-DEVIGE.
Be it known that I, FRANK' COLLIGON, of Buffalo, in the county of Erie, in the Stat'eof New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lubricating-Grups; and I do hereby dclare that the following description thereof is suciently clear and exact to enableothers skilled in the art to which it a-ppertains, or to. which it is most nearly connected, to make, construct, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure `l is a side elevation.
Figure 2, a plan view, showing the c'up with the top of?. L y The nature of my invention consists in tne combination o'f-a transparentindicator with the lubricating or oil-cup, the same being so arranged that the oil may be seen through it, so that the level of the same may at all times be known without the necessity oftakng oli' the oil-cup cover.
In the drawings, like letters in each of the figures represent like parts.
A and B represent the pump andthe handle for operating it.
C, the stuffing-box for the same. 1
G represents a stop-cock for shuttingoif the pressure whenfit is necessary to clean or otherwise repairl the pump or oil-cup. v Y
D represents the oilcup; E, the transparent indicator. .It consists ofa glass tube, which fits into a groove or. recess in the side of the oil-cup. 'lhe'said groove is represented by the dotted linesiin tig. 2, marked F.
The only communication with the inside of the oil-cupanclthe groove F is Athrough a small hole Ain `the bottom of saidlgroove, as shown :t H, in iig. 1.4 There is also an opening at the top of said'groove, through which the glass tube E ispassed down into place.
I represents a ring or washer, of lead or other equivalent material, for packing the joint at theobottom of the tube E, and rendering lit-tight, so as to prevent the leakage of oil through the joint, and at the same time leave an opening, for it t'o rise up through the opening in the bottom of, said tube. The tube E is kept down firmly in place by means'of the screw J, shown in figs. 1 and 2.
Of course it will be readilyseen that as the oil is raised or lowered in the 1ubricating-cup, so will its level rise or fall in the glass tube E, and its position be shown. A
.What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the transparent indicator .E with, the lubricating-cupi),,substantially as and for the purposes described.
' FRANK .COLLIGON.
