This invention consists, first, in the use and applicationto the top of the wick-tube of a lamp which-has an outer jacket-sleeve, or other similar or analogous device for regulating the flame ofa movable cap or stopple,

a, which slides down, over, and outside of the top end of the wick-tube b, in the form of a tube or tubular cap, or inside of the wick-tube in the form of a stopple, and, when applied as above stated, there is a collar-or flange,

e, projecting outward all around the cap or stopple, which collar -re sts"on the top-endof the outer jacket 1,

This cap oi stopple not only closes the top end of the wick-tuhe andjacket tight and close, but gives the V top end of the tubes a morefinished and ornamental appearance.

This cap oristopple prevents ofiensive odors rising from the charred end of the wick, so common with lamps of the class here shown. V i I My invention also consists in the employment ofva' suitable cap-holder, O, a top view-oi" which is shown in fig. 4. When the flame is extinguished, the cap or stopple a is applied to the top end of the nick-tube and jacket, either over the outside of the wick-tube orwithinit, the collar, c, fitting on the top end of the jacket, thus'stopping evaporation offluid, or escape of offensive odor from the charred end of the wick, l i
