To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, EDGAR S. MITCHELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Homer, in the parish of Claiborne and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Indicators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an indicator for boxes, and more particularly a device of this kind for indicating the sizes of hats in a hat-box.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and handy device of this kind; and to this end it consists in certain novel features of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an elevation of a hat-box provided with my invention. Fig. Q- is a vertical section on the line Z 2 of Fig. l.
Referring specifically to the drawings, my indicator comprises a thin strip 5, which is bent over at one end to form ahook 6 forengagement with the upper edge of the hat-box 7. At the opposite end of the strip, on the back thereof, is a barb or pin 7, which is stuck into the box to retain the indicator in proper position thereon. On the face of the strip a number of flaps 8 are secured by hinges 9. The faces of the iiaps are suitably inscribed, as shown, to indicate the sizes of hats in the box. These inscriptions are exposed when the aps are down, so that a dealer can readily ascertain what sizes of hats are in the box without taking the lid off and removing the hats. Each flap when down covers an inscription Out on the face of the strip, so that the dealer can always determine at a glance what sizes of hats are exhausted. The hinges of the flaps are constructed to work hard, so that the flaps will not accidentally drop down after being raised. The strips will preferably be colored to correspond to the color of the hats in the box.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
An indicator comprising an inscribed strip which is bent over at one end to form a hook, and has at the opposite end a projecting pin; and inscribed iiaps hinged tothe strip, and constructed to cover anduncover the inscriptions on the flap.
