messes.
To all "whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Davin KUHMARKDR, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing in the city of New York,
Manhattan borough, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrapping-Paper Pads, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to an improvement in pads, the object being to provide a pad consisting of outer covers between which are located sheets of wax or wrapping paper. My improved pad is composed of the said outer covers, one of which is of the special construction hereinafter described, and a plurality of sheets of wax-paper to be used for wrapping sandwiches, lunches, etc.
A further feature of improvement consists in providing one of the covers with an opening through which the paper can be seen, the said opening being spanned by a sheet of transparent celluloid, or other flexible transparent substance, to keep out dust, etc.
A still further feature of my improvement consists in providing one of the covers with a paper-cutter so that less than a full sheet can be cut and extracted from the pad.
I will now proceed to describe my invention in detail, the novel features of which I will point out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improvement; Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional detail view, the section being taken on a line 22 in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a similar view illustrating the top cover as lifted in order that a sheet can be cut off intermediate the ends thereof; and Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view, the section being taken on a line 11 in Fig. 1, the sheets of paper and opening 12 being omitted.
As herein illustrated, my improvement consists of a top cover 1 and a lower cover 2, which may be connected at one end by a strip 3' (Fig. 4) this however being optional.
As shown in Fig. 1 the top cover 1 is provided with an opening 5 through which the sheets of paper '6 can be seen, the said opening bein spanned or covered by a transparent film? (Fig. l). Intermediate the ends of the cover 1, I place a cutter 8, by which means a part or section of one or more of Specification of Letters Patent. Patented S81), 14:, 1915.,
' Application filed December 26,1514. Serial No. 879,048.
the sheets of paper constituting the pad can be cut off. The sheets of paper 6 are secured together and to the covers, at one end thereof, in any desirable manner, such as by stitching or by fasteners 9. The covers, especially the top cover 1, are made preferably out of some flexible material so that the top cover can be bent upwardly, as shown in Fig. 3, in order that one or more sheets can be grasped and raised at one end thereof, and pulled upwardly against the edge 10 of the cutter 8, whereby the said sheet or sheets will be severed at the line of contact with the cutter. The cutter 8 will be held against the pile of sheets 6 by one hand during the cutting operation. As will be seen in Fig. the cutter 8 is secured along one edge 11, to the cover 1; hence the said cover can be bent away from the cutting edge of the cutter to facilitate the cutting of a sheet or sheets. The pad is provided with an opening 12 at one end thereof by which means the pad can be hung up. The cutter is preferably made out of thin metal or strong cardboard and can be secured to the cover 1 in any desirable manner, such as by paper fasteners, rivets, glue, etc.
One of the advantageous features of the sight-opening or window 5 in the top-cover 1 is that, although the pad be fully covered, a trademark, watermark or other indication on the sheets of'paper 6 will always be visible, if placed at a point subjacent the said opening, without lifting up or removing the cover.
Having now described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A pad of wrapping paper, comprising a plurality of sheets of paper, a flexible cover for the pad, and a cutter on the under surface of said cover, the said cutter being secured, along one of its edges only, to the cover, that portion of the cover between the point of securement to the cutter and the free'edge of the cover being free to be moved away from the cutting edge of the cutter, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. A pad of. wrapping paper, comprising a plurality of sheetsof paper, a cover for said pad, and a cutter carried by said cover intermediate the ends thereof and located on the under surface of said cover, the cutter being secured, along one of its edges only, to V Signed at New York city, N; Y., this 23d said (giver, whereby the? portion of said dayof December, 1914.: Y cover etWeen the point 0 securement to the Y J V cutter and the free edge of the cover can be DAVID KUHMARKER' rolled backwardly to expose the sheets of Witnessesr 7 the mad Without raising the cutterfrom the AURICE BLOCK, U
