BARREL ROLLER.
APPLICATION FIHLED FEB. 27. 1905.
'-ttomegs:
uNITEn STATEs PATENT OFFICE..
CLARENCE EDWI BAGFORD, OF OORWIN', OHIO.
` BARREL-ROLLER.
To ULZZ whom, t may coi/worn:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE EDWIN BAG- EoRD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Corwin, in the county of Warren and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Barrel-Roller, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to meansfor rolling barrels, and has for its object to provide a simple and improved device of this character capable of being conveniently manipulated by hand for engagement with a barrel to roll the latter upon a floor-or other support, so as to shift the barrel from one place to another without lifting the same from the floor.
Another object of the invention is to have the device adjustable, so as to lit barrels of different lengths and to facilitate the application of the device to the barrels without preparation of the latter beyond laying them down on their sides.
With these and other objects in view the present'invention consists in the-combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter vmore fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any'of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a barrel-rolling device embodying the features of the present invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the device, showing the application thereof with a barrel indicated in dotted lines.
Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures of the drawings.
The device of the present invention includes spaced head-frames, (designated in general 1 and 2,) each head member consisting of di- Verged side bars 3 and 4, which are connected at their diverged ends by means of a bowed or arched cross-bar 5, constituting a handle. The sides 3 and 4 and the handle 5 are preferably formed from a single metallic bar bent into an approximately V shape, with the sides 3' and 4 diverged from the handle. At the outer end of each side of eachV head-frame there is a roller or wheel 6, preferably in the 4nature of a disk, which is applied to the outer Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 27, 1905. Serial No. 247,502.

applied diametric'ally at the outer face of the roller and pierced by the bolt 7, the inner end portion of the guard being laterally offset, as
at 9, to form an attaching-shank, which is '6o rigidly connected to the adjacent head by means of a bolt 10, whereby the wheel works between the guard 8 and the adjacent side or leg of the head, so\as to prevent wabbling of the wheel or roller. The corresponding legs 6,5
which are applied to the inner faces of the 7o respective heads and rigidly secured .thereto by means of the bolts 7 and 10. One of these connecting-bars is provided with a longitudinal slot 15, and the other bar carries a pair of screws or threaded projections 16, which work 7 5 in the slot 15, with wing-nuts 17 applied to the projected ends of the screws and adapted to be set against the slotted bar, so as to rigidly and adjustably connect the bars, whereby the head members of the device are also rig- 8o idlyand adjustably connected.
. In using the device, as indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the operator grasps one of the handles 5 in eac-h hand and places the rollers 6 against the side of the barrel, which has 85 been indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and by pushing upon the handles the barrel will be rolled over and over upon the ioor or other support, the rollers 6 of course rotating under the influence of the rotating barrel, and 9o thereby operating as antifriction devices to permit of a free rolling of the barrel. In changing to barrels of diierent lengths the head members 1 and 2 are separated or drawn together to accommodate the device to barrels of any length within the capacity of the device.
From the foregoing description it will be understood that the device of the present invention is entirely complete in itself and may roo be conveniently applied to barrels without any preparation of the latter and without lifting the barrelto place the same upon the device, wherefore the rolling of the barrel by means of the present device may be effected in a very sim ple and convenient manner without the expenditure of much energy.
Having thus described the invention, what l is claimed is- 1. A barrel-rolling device comprising spaced I I 0 heads capable of adjustment toward and away from one another, each head having a pair of spaced barrel-engaging antifriction-rollers at one end and a handle at the opposite end, the handles of the heads being independent of one another, and means connecting the heads and adjustable to vary the space between said heads.
2. A barrel-rolling device comprisingspaced heads having diverged sides, rollers mounted upon the diverged ends of the sides, handles connecting the other ends of the sides, the handle of one head being independent of the handle of the other head, pairs of bars carried by the roller ends of the sides and overlapped between the heads, one member of each pair of bars having a longitudinal slot, a threaded projection carried by the other bar and \vorl;- ing in the slot, and a clamping-nut carried by the projection to adjustably connect the bars.
3. A barrel-rolling device comprising spaced heads having diverged sides, rollers carried by the outer faces of the diverged terminals of the sides, handles connecting the other ends of the sides, endwise-adjustable overlapped bars having terminal lateral extensions applied to the inner faces ol the corresponding sides of the heads, guards applied to the outer sides of the heads and overlapping the respective rollers, bolts piercing the extensions oi the bars, the heads, the rollers, and the guards and constituting axes for the rollers, and other bolts piercing the extensions of the hars, the heads and the guards at the sides el: the rollers.
In testimony that l claim the foregoing as my own fl have hereto aliixcd my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CLARENCE llllWl N BAG l `0ll l).
