OTTO NEUMEISTER AND \VILHELM NEUMEISTER, OF JENA, GERMANY.
METAL PLATE WITH FASTENING-RIB AND OUTWARDLY-BENT LONGER EDGE FOR LINING ROOFINGS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 12, 1905.
Application filed February 16, 1904. Serial No. 193,800.
To a. whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, O'rro NEUMEIS'LER and (VILHELM NEUMEISTER, master slaters and lightning-rod setters, subjects of the German Emperor, residing at 28 Lutherstrasse, in the city of Jena, in the German Empire, have invented a certain new and useful Metal Plate with Fastening-Rib and Outwardly-Bent Longer Edge for Lining Roofings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to a roofingplate by means of which it is possible to provide an outer lining for the roofing of separating-walls, chimneys, and the like, which is so arranged and constructed that the rainwater which has happened to get under the roof at these places is conducted in a very easy manner to the outer surface of the roof, the new roofing-plate providing an absolutely reliable discharge of the rain-water.
The improvement consists, essentially, of a metal plate 7), shown in Figure 1 in top plan view, while Fig. 2 illustrates the application of the plate to the roof in vertical section. The plate is provided at one of its longer edges with a vertically-projecting outward extension 7/, while to its upper part a rib is is secured for the purpose of engagement with the roofing-plates.
Near the other longer edge of the plate and preferably parallel to the edge a longitudinally-extending head or corrugation a is provided, which constitutes a guide or conductor for the rain-water, which is thereby caused to flow down the said plate instead of flowing over the sides of the plate, so that the rainwater which has happened to get under the surface of the roof is conducted again to the outside and is prevented from spoiling the roof and the underlying framework. The said plates should be so arranged on the roof that their extensions 1/ are placed close to the separating-wall or the like, and they should then be covered at these places by a strip r Fig. 2, as practiced in connection with the ordinary Zinc roofing.
If the plates 7/ are placed alternately between each two succeeding roofing-plates, they conduct the water that might have got to the under side of the roof to the outer surface of the same in an absolutely reliable manner.
\Vhat we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A metal flashing-plate for providing an outer lining for roolings, one of the longer edges of the said plate being provided with an upwardly-bent extension 7), while a fastening-rib is attached to the upper end of the same and a longitudinally-extending corrugation is provided along the other longer edge of the plate.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two witnesses.
OTTO NEUMEISTER. VILHELM NEUMEISTER.
