Be it known that I, ALBERT B. h'l'urnu, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ubicage, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Casings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a bottle-casing, designed particularly for the protection of bottles, such as nursing-bottles and the like, to prevent the breakage thereof. It may also be used for shipping purposes and otherwise, as desired.
The object of the invention is to produce a device which is removable from one bottle and capable of use on another.
A further object of the invention is to produce a novel device of the kind, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the protector applied to a bottle. Fig. 2. is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicates the bottle within the case. The case is made of rubber tubing and comprises a series of tubes 7, which extend lengthwise from the top to the bottom of the bottle at suitable spaces around the same.
8 indicates outer tubes which extend horizontally around the bottle and rest upon the outside of the tubes 7. cross they are joined by loops 9, extending around the same, or they may be joined in any suitably manner, such as by sewing or riveting. The tubes 7 and 8 are spaced a sufficient distance apart to form a network sufficient to protect the bottle against ordinary shocks and jars.
Each tube 8 contains a wire 10, the ends of which project beyond the ends of the tube, and when the protector is applied to a bottle these ends are hooked together, as at 11, thus holding the protector on the bottle. By unhooking the ends the protector may be laid open and the bottle removed therefrom.
At 12 a bottom piece is indicated, to which the lower ends of the tubes 7 are joined. This bottom piece is made of rubber and is of considerable thickness. It may be con- \Vhere the tubes veniently made by coiling spirally a rubber tube of larger diameter than the tubes above referred to.
At the top the upper ends of the tubes 7 are gathered around the neck of the bottle by means of a wire 13, which is threaded through the ends of the tubes and hooked together, as at 14. To assist in holding the ends of the tubes together and to protect the mouth of the bottle, a rubber ring 15 is expanded over said neck and upon the ends of the tubes 7 and acts to hold the same in place. This ring is of suflicient thickness to project beyond the lips of the mouth of the bottle and to act as a protection therefor. \Vhen it is desired to remove the protector from the bottle, the ring is slipped off.
A bottle-case so formed is capable of continued use on various bottles and will be found particularly useful in the nursery.
\Vhat 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A bottle-casing comprising a series of crossed elastic pieces joined together and formed to fit around a bottle, and a bottom piece to which some of said pieces are joined.
2. A bottle-casing comprising a series of elastic pieces extending lengthwise and a series of cross-pieces extending around the bottle, said pieces being joined together where they cross, and the cross-pieces having detachable connections at their ends.
3. A bottle-casing comprising lengthwise rubber tubes 7, rubber tubes 8 extending across the same, and an elastic bottom piece 12 to which the tubes 7 are joined.
4. Abottle-casingcomprisingan elasticbottom piece 12, lengthwise elastictubes 7joined thereto, an elastic ring 15 around the upper ends of the tubes, and cross-pieces secured to the tubes 7, substantially as described.
