To all whom it may concern.-

Be itknown thatI, EDWARD P. ALEXANDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Georgetown, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pencil-Point Protectors and Erasers, of which the following is specification.

My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in combination with pencilpoint protectors and erasers; and the particular features of novelty reside not so much in any construction of the device per se, but in the peculiar contour thereof by which it is especially adapted to have mounted thereon retainers, annular erasers, and pencil attachments of like character.

In the description of my invention reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the specification, like numerals designating like parts throughout,in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device mounted upon a pencil, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof.

The device is formed in an integral piece of sheet metal, which converges from each of its ends toward the center. The end which is designated 1 is provided with longitudinal slots 2 adjacent its edge, which divide the said end into gripping-fingers that tit snugly over the end of the pencil. The other end 4 is designed to receive the eraser 5. The ends 1 and 4 are of equal diameter for ashort distance, but taper, as at 6 and 7, respectively, until they meet, as at 8, thereby forming an annular groove of which the converging ends 6 and 7 are the walls, the portion 6 tapering toward the central point to a degree corresponding generally to the degree of taper of the point of the pencil, thereby forming a receptacle for the pencil-point. The device is of course of much less diameter at 8, where the converging ends meet, than at its extremities, the diameter at the concavity 8 being preferably of sufficient width to receive the pencil-point. Th us the annular groove or depression 8, formed at the meeting of the converging ends, serves as a seat upon which pencil and attachments may be readily retained. In addition by its peculiar contour one is enabled to obtain a firmer grip upon the device in removing and replacing it upon the ends of the pencil.

Having fully described my invention, I claim- As a new article of manufacture, a pencilpoint protector and eraser-holder, embodying an elongated cylindrical member adapted to fit on a pencil, and having oppositely-disposed slots extending the major portion of the length of said member and open at the free end thereof, an imperforate frusto-conical member integral with the other end of the firstmentioned member and adapted to fit neatly on the tapered part of the pencil, a second imperforate frusto conical member integral with the first-mentioned frusto-conical member, the frustum of said cones being joined, and engaging the periphery of the pencil adjacent the point whereby the latter is permitted to project into the said second frustoconical member, and an elongated corrugated sleeve integral with the larger end of said second frusto-conical member.
