IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-CHIMNEY CLEANERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,754, dated June 11, 1872.
Specification describing a new anduseful Improvement in Lamp Chimney Cleaners, invented by ADELBERT A. FORD, of North Abington, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts.
The invention consists of a lamp-chimney cleaner, composed of the parts and constructed as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, Figure 1 represents the article complete. Fig. 2 is a view of the stem and thimble detached. Fig. 3 is an end view of the stem, showing the mode of attaching the paperewiper.

A is the stem. or handle, made of wood. B is the wiper, made of paper or similar flexible material. C is the thimble, made of metal. D is the swab attached to the end of the stem, made of. Manila or similar material. The handle is slit or quartered, as seen in Fig. 3, a portion of its length by a saw, and the wiper is simply a square piece of paper or cloth, so
folded or crimped that it' enters the slits, as seen in Fig. 3, and is then folded down, as
seen in Fig. 1, by turning the stem with one hand and holding the wiper loosely with the other. The thimble O slides'loosely on the stem, and is crowded up onto the wiper, as
seen in the drawing, which holds it in place.
The thimble is slightly tapering so that it does not tear the paper while gathering and confining it tightly to the stem. For using the swab D the paper may be removed, and the thimble may then be used to confine the quarters of the stern together, as seen in Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A lamp chimney cleaner, composed of slit stem A, swab D, and wiper B, fastened by thimble C, or its equivalent, as described.
