TO LL WHOM IT MAY CONERN: l
Be it known that I, SAMUEL WEEKLY, of the city and county of Ssn Frnncis'co, Stateof Cnlifornia, ,ha.ve
invented an Improved Spur; andI do hereby deolnre the following description and accompanying drawings aref suieient to enable any person skilled inthe ort or science to which it mostnenrly np'pertnins tomake and use my said invention or improvement without further invention or experiment. A
vThe object of my invention is to `provide an improvement in Wehrlys spur for horsemen, for which Letters Patent ofthe United States have been granted; and it `,onsists in an improved mechanism for adj-fisting the spur to the hoot or shoe of the rider.v Y l j l I 'To more fully describe my invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming;r nipart of this specification, of whichs Y v Figure 1 is a. side elevation of the spur.
Figure 2is n top view.' i
Similar letters of reference in dioate like perte in eachof the iignres.
A is a. curved metal band, which eneircles the heel of the boot, and which has the spur-wheel, B, supported bythe arm B,'asin ordinaryspurs. i
To the sides of thebnnd A, and neer theezt-remities, isplneed n sliding plate, C, attached at right'nngles to the end of the Strap C.; This plate is provided with a. Slot, D, and is movable agninstn smnll block, a, heldv bythe set-screw a', which enters the band. At'the cnd 'of the sliding plate, at each side of the band A, are made grodnntedlholes, 6 b b, in which. a pin, c, attachedtotheend of n spring,iE, shownv in iig. 2, and also in iig. Lpartly in dotted lines, is `placed.. The plnte'is attached tofthe end of o strap, Cf, and is held by :t setscrew, d, having a. small pin'below the screw which enters nihole in the strap, to prevent its falling when the screw is loosened. The spring moves with the sliding plate, 'and the pin entersv the lgrdunted holes to allow the spurto be adjusted to the heelof the rider.
When the spur'is to be removed, the springs E E are raised, by the curved ends c e,-\v'ithdrawing the pins from the holes, and thewholevmechnnism allowed to slide forward, thus loosening the strap around the heel.
By this device the strap is more easily adjusted tothe heel of the wearer, and not so liable to become loose ns`byA the use of the rack and bar. l
Hoving thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure-hyv Letters Potent, is-
The graduated holes b b 6, or their equivalents, i'n the sides of thepnbnnd A, und the pin c near theY 'end ofV the spring E, for adjusting the spur to the heel, substantially'ns described.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal. v
' SAMUEL WEHRLY. [L
