Be it known that l, HARRY ELINOFF, a citizen of the United. States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county ol Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Temporary Binders, of which. the following is a speciication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention has relation to certain new and useiul inlprovements in temporary binders, and more particularly to that class com monly known as loose-leaf books or ledgers g and the object of this invention is to provide a binder in which a plurality of sheets or the like can be readily placed and emoved. from the temporary binder when desired. ln connection with the binder l employ a back, which, ill it be so desired, may be made olE a :[leXible material, whereby the book may be rolled. The binder as contemplated by me is particularly adapted to be used in connection with ledgers, order-books, pricebooks, and albums.

Briefly described, the invention. comprises a frame consisting of two members that are hinged together, and upon one oil? said members l secure an oblong rectangular Yframe which comprises two members, one telescoping within the other, and each ol these members carry prongs or posts which are adapted to engage in apertures provided in each sheet that is mounted between. said trames. l employ a novel form of lock for locking the l'rai nes in a closed position, and the many other details entering into the invention will be hereinafter more fully described.

Referring to the drawings accompanying this application, like numerals of reference designate correspondingl parts throughout the several views, in which* Figure 1 is a perspective view of my :improved binder. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a telescopic frame employed in connection with. the binder 5 and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view o't my improved binder, showing the l'rame in end elevation..

The present invention as contemplated by me is an improvement upon my invention as set forth in .my application led August 30, 1904, Serial No. 222,705, 'lor a temporary binder, and my improvements consist in dispensing with the curved hinged members that were employed in connection with the binder and by providing a telescopic trame which is adapted to hold. the sheets or pages that are to be mounted within the binder.

The roterencc-nunierals 1. and 2 designate the backs or covers, which may be made of a stiff and substantial material or may be made llexible, and these backs'or covers are adapted to fully protect the sheets when the binder is in a closed position.

ln Fig. 1 of the drawings l have illustrated a loose-leaf order-boek or ledger' upon which the binder is attached, and my improved binder may be readily employed upon any form o1 book where the sheets or leaves thereof are to be loosely mounted. The backs 1 and 2 are secured to the metallic strips 8 3, which extend longitudinally of the book, and secured to said strips by the rivets 4 41 are the angular plates 5 5. These plates are hinged together at one of their corners by a rod 6, which extends longitudinally of the book, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The edge oll one ol the plates is bent out of alinement with the remainder et the plate, as designated at 7, whereby the bent-out portion ol" said plate will engage the opposite plate, and. in the accompanying drawings l have illustrated one of the plates as being provided with a lock 8, having a locking-lever 9, that is adapted to engage the inwardly-extending pin 10, carried by the opposite angular plate 5. The construction. upon the opposite en d olf the book is identical with that just described, with the exception that the lock is dispensed with upon the other end.

The reference-nunieral 11 designates a keyhole Vformed in the plate 5, carrying the lock 8, whereby a key may be inserted to operate said lock.

rlhe angular plates 5 5 and strips 3 form frame sections or members, and on. one ol these members l secure by screws 12 12 a rectangular trame which consists or' the members 14 and 15, the member 14 being provided with depending ends 16, while the member 15 is provided with upwardly-extending ends 17. The ends 17 are flanged, as indicated at 1S, whereby a guidcway will be formed Vfor the receptionv o'l the ends 16 of the member 111, and the member 14; in its normal position is adapted to be telescoped by the member 15. The members 14 and 15 are provided with the posts 2O and 19, respectively, and these posts are adapted to engage in the apertures 21, 'formed adjacent one edge of the sheets 22, that are to be retained within the binder.

To remove one of the leaves or sheets 22, the member 14 is raised, which will permit a space to exist between the ends of the posts 19 and 20, at which time one or more of the leaves or sheets may be raised from the posts which have heretofore retained said leaves or sheets within the binder. The desired number of sheets having been removed, the member 14 is lowered and the backs of the bool; are closed, which will cause the lock to become closed or locked, and the sheets or leaves will be retained within the binder.

It will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit and scope of the invention.

Having fully described my invention,what l claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a temporaryT binder, the combination with two frame sections or members hinged together, a frame embodying two parts one of which is secured to one of said frame-sec* tions and has upturned ends, and the other part of which frame has downturned ends telescoping the said upturned ends, means for locking the hinged frame-sections, and means carried by the two-part `frame for holding sheets within the frame.

2. In a temporary binder, the combination of two frame sections or members hinged together, telescoping frame, one part oi which l is secured to one of said frame sections or members, posts carried by each part of said frame for securing sheets of paper in said frame, the posts carried by one part being out of alinement with the posts carried by the other part, and means for locking said frame between said hinged frame sections or members.

3. ln a temporary binder, the combination with two frame sections or members hinged together, of a frame embodying two parts each having their ends turned at right angles and the ends of one part telescoping the ends of the other part, one of said parts rigidly secured to one of the frame-sections, and means carried by said two-part frame for securing leaves within the same.

a. ln a temporary binder, the combination of two frame sections or members hinged together and having backs secured thereto, of a frame embodying two parts, each part having angular ends, and the angular ends of one part telescoping those of the other part, one of said parts secured to one of the hinged frame sections or members, posts carried by said two-part frame, and means for locking the hinged frame sections or members.
