FILE-SHEETS FOR LOOSE-LEAF FILES.
Application filed July 9, 1913.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. MCBEE, a citizen of the United States, residing in Athens, county of Athens, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in File-Sheets for Loose-Leaf Files, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide separating sheets, preferably card board, designed to be numbered or indexed, for a loose leaf file, which in connection with the locking means for the file, will be of such construction that the papers filed between them cannot cover up the numbers or the index thus insuring quickness and despatch in the handling of the filing system.
My invention consists of certain details of construction hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure I shows a perspective view of my file in closed position, and Figs. II and III show perspective views of my file in open position.
Referring to the accompanying drawings the reference numeral 10 indicates the lower cover of a'loose leaf filing device, the numeral 11 the back secured thereto, and the numeral 12, the upper cover hinged to the back.
Locking devices are provided and consist of latch bars 13, which are connected to the upper cover, said bars co-acting with the clasps 14, the latter being connected to the lower cover. A locking device is located near each end of the file and the members thereof are in-set, as shown. The card board separating files are so constructed that their forward edges protrude centrally, as shown at 15, their forward edges near their outer ends being engaged by the clasp locks. They are also designed to he of such size that when their rear edges are abutting the back, their forward edges will Specification of Letters Patent.

nearly engage the clasp locks and their cen-- tral forward edges will protrude, as shown.
The locking devices are designed to be" closer together than the length of the papers desired to be filed.
By this construction it is obvious that papers filed therein cannot protrude beyond the clasps and as the central portion of the separating sheets protrude beyond the clasps, the numbers or index thereon cannot be covered by the papers filed.
The separating sheets may be constructed by in-setting of the forward edges near their ends, or by indexes projecting beyond the clasps, as shown in one figure, without altering my invention, the feature of which is to so construct separating sheets and so secure the locking members to the file, that the filed papers cannot protrude beyond the clasips and the numbers or indexes be covere Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
A loose leaf file comprising upper and lower covers, posts carried by the end edges of the respective covers to prevent endwise movement of leaves when resting on the lower cover, clasps mounted on the lower cover and disposed in diagonal relation to the forward posts of the lower cover, latch bars carried by the upper cover for detachably engaging said clasps, said clasps being spaced apart longitudinally, index cards insertible between the leaves and having forwardly projecting central portions lying between the clasps and extending beyond the plane of the clasps and bars and forward edges of the leaves, as and for the purpose set forth.
