JAMES W. FINFROCK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
, SiASH-CORD CLAMP.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 15, 1905.
Application filed March l, 1905. Serial No. 247,874.
To a/ZZ whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES W. FINFROCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sash-Cord Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a clamp particularly adapted and intended for attaching sash-cords to the Stiles of the sash. It is characterized by simplicity and ease of operation and attachment, as will more fully appear from the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an edge view of the stile of a window with the sash-cord and clamp in place. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the manner of attaching the cord to the clamp.
Referring specifically to the drawings, `6 indicates the window-stile, having therein a longitudinal groove 7, within which the rope is contained. This groove is enlarged at the lower end, as at 8, forming a recess in which the clamp fits.
The clamp consists of a member 9, forked and recurved at the upper end, as at 10, and a cam-lever member 11, which fits between the branches 10 and has laterally-extending pivot-studs 12 on each side, which fit under the bend of the hooks and form a fulcrum for the clamping-lever. The cam-face 13 of this lever is formed on the inner side and binds the rope, (indicated at 14.)
In use the rope is inserted between the branches 10 of the member 9, the clamp-lever being up or open. The said lever is then forced down, as indicated in Fig. 2, clamping the rope between the cam 13 and the member 9. The clamp and rope are then inserted in the stile, as shown in Fig. 1. The enlarged recess 8 accommodates the clamp, which is too wide to slip up in the groove 7. Pull on the rope tends to tighten the clamp in consequence of the cam-surface and also in consequence of the contact of the upper end of the clamp members against the walls of the recess where it joins the groove. It requires but an instant to attach or detach the rope and sash.
Although illustrated in connection with a window-sash, it is obvious tha-t the clamp may be used in various other ways.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with a sash-stile having a recess therein with converging walls, of a sash-cord clamp comprising two members which are pivoted together at one end and fit when closed within the recess and in operative contact with opposite walls thereof, said members having a cam which is clamped upon the rope by the pull thereon.
2. The combination with a sash-stile having a groove terminating at its lower end in an enlarged recess, of a cord-clamp comprising two members pivoted together at the upper end and having a cam which binds the cord, said members fitting, when closed, within the recess and in binding contact against the contracted walls of the recess where it joins the groove.
3. The combination with a sash-stile having a vertically-extending recess the opposite side walls of which converge at the top, of a sashcord clamp comprising members pivoted t0- gether at their upper ends and having a cam which binds the cords therebetween, the said clamp fitting within the recess with the upper ends of the said members in contact with the said converging walls.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES W. FIN FROCK.
