To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLE MARTIN STALsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident vof Eau Claire, in the county of Eau Claire and State of Wisconsin, have invented anew and Improved Rope-Bracket, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to rope brackets and is particularly useful in connection with devices of this class used to secure a swing seat upon a swing rope.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, strong and durable rope bracket adapted to be secured to a support such as a swing seat., and serving to hold the rope in position, supporting the seat.
A further object of the invention is to provide a rope bracket adapted to receive a rope and constituting a clamp for holding the rope firmly in positionj A still further object of the invention is to provide arope bracket adapted to be mounted upon a rope at any point of the length thereof, without necessitating the untying of one or the other of the ends of the rope.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in Which Figure l is a vertical section showing a portion of a support such as a swing seat with my invention applied thereto Fig. 2 is an end elevation showing a socket member of the rope bracket; Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1 the support being removed; Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the binding member of the bracket; Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing a pair of rope brackets of my invention applied to a swing and securing the swing rope and the swing seat one to the other; Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a bracket of my form, showing parts broken away 5 and Fig. 7 is a transverse section on the line 7-7 of Fig. 6.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 represents a support to which the rope bracket is secured, consisting for example, of the seat of a swing. My rope bracket comprises separable members formed to receive a rope between them and clamping the same in position. I provide a socket member 2 integral with a plate 3 laterally disposed and having at adjacent edges plate iianges 4 and 5. The plate 3 is at substantially right angles with the socket member 2 and is provided with openings y6 therethrough. The socket member can be rigidly secured to the support by means of screws 7 passing through the openings 6 of the plate 3. The socket member preferably has the vertical edges curved outwardly from the plate 3 as is shown most clearly in Fig. 3 and has at the upper end an annular strengthening rib 8. At the inner face the socket member has a plurality of corrugations 9 near the lower part for a purpose which will appear hereinafter. Adjacent to the socket member 2 the plate 3 is curved to form a rope guide-way 11 at substantially right angles with the Vsocket member and extending thereto. I provide a binding member 12 curved similarly and oppositely to the socket member 2 and having at the up er end an annular strengthening rib 13. t the opposite vertical edges the binding member is bent upon itself to form flanges 14 adapted to be removably mounted` in elongated grooves 10 at the corres onding edges of the socket member. The inding member can be slipped into place upon the socket member by inserting the lower ends of the flanges 14 into the u per ends of the grooves 10 and moving the binding member downward longitudinally of the socket member. As the members are curved in opposite directions they present an opening therebetween which is adapted to receive a rope 15 g this as shown in the accompanying drawings, serves to support a swing seat. Vhen the rope is in position between the members the movement of the'binding member longitudinally of the socket member and the corrugations 9, clamps the rope firmly between the members the corrugations serve to jam the rope in position as the binding member is forced home. Below the members the rope is laterally disposed and arranged in the guide-way l 1 passing to theopposite bracket, and'similarly engaging the latter.
The bracket is mounted upon the support with the plate 3 secured to a face thereof and the plate iianges 4 and 5 arranged at adjacent edges of the sup ort. By means of the lplate and the plate anges the bracket can e securely mounted in position and held against accidental displacement and lateral movement. It will be understood that other attaching means can be provided for 1 securing the socket member to the support and that the principle underlying my invention does not reside in the attaching means but consists primarily in the separable members serving to clamp the rope therebetween and hold the same in position.
In the modified form ofv my invention shown in Figs. 6 and 7 the separable members are nearly cylindrical in cross-section, and the binding member is partly embraced by the socket member. The members are held together owing to the fact that the diameter of the binding member is greater than the width ofthe open side of the socket member, whereby the lateral separation of the parts is prevented. This form obviates the necessity for the grooves l() and the flanges 14. This form of the device is attached to the rope by placingv one of the members in position and sliding the other member along the rope and into engagement with the first. It is of course unnecessary to slip the bracket over the end of the rope, as the members com rising the bracket are separable.
I aving thus described my invention I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentz- 1. In a device of the class described, an incurved socket member and an in-curved binding member, said members having the corresponding edges formed to engage to secure said members one tothe other, said members when engaged forming an opening and being adapted to clamp a rope therebetween, one of said members having a plate formed for attaching one of said members to a support.
2. In a device of the class described, a socket member resenting grooves at opposite edges thereof, and a binding member pre senting at opposite edges flanges adapted to bye removably arranged in said grooves to secure said members one to the other, said socket. member having a laterally disposed part for attaching the device to a support, one of said members having means for clamping a rope against the other of said members.
3. In a device of the class described, a
mounting the same upon said socket mem ber, said members being arranged to receive the rope therebetween, one of said members having corrugations for clamping a rope against the other of said members.
4. In a device of the class described, a
socket member having an integral, flattened and laterally disposed part for attaching the same to a support and presenting grooves at opposite longitudinal edges, a bindingV member havingy flanges at opposite longitudinal edges adapted to be slidably and removably arranged said grooves, saidmembers being oppositely curved to form an opening therebetween adapted to receive a rope, said socket member having corrugations near one end whereby the rope is clam ed between said members when said binc ing member is slipped into position adjacent to said socket member.
5. In a device of the class described, a
plate adapted to be secured to a support and,
raving flanges adapted to engage the support at edgesthereof, a socket member rigid with said plate and having grooves at opposite longitudinal edges, and a binding member having opposite longitudinal edges formed into flanges adapted to be slidably and removably arranged in said grooves, said members being oppositely curved to present an opening therebetween adapted to receive a rope, said plate having a guide-way presenting an end at said socket member and adapted to receive the rope, said socket member having corrugations at the inner face thereof.
