Specification of Letters Patent.

form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in door stops and retainers and it has for 1ts ob ect the provlslon of a door stop having combined therewith means for holding the door when open.
To this end and such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists in the peculiar construction and the novel arrangement, combination and adaptation of parts, all as will be more fully hereinafter described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Flgure 1 is a side elevation of a combined stop and door retainer embodying my invention, the same being shown in use, and Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device, the stop being shown partly in section.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a door stop of the usual well known form of construction, comprising the base portion B, shank C and enlarged head D, the extreme end of said head portion being provided with a rubber buffer or block E which contacts with the door when open. The base portion of the stop A is secured in any suitable manner to the base board F or side wall of the apartment in the path of the door G when open. Secured to the rear face of the door is a plate H provided with a hook I.
J is a substantially U-shaped retainer constructed of heavy wire or round iron, the ends of which are provided with eyes 7' through which are passed pins M which serve to pivotally connect said bail with the head of the stop A.
From the foregoing description, the operation of the device will be at once understood. lVhon the device is to serve merely as a door stop and it is not desired to fasten the door open, the bail J depends from the stop as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1 and, when it is designed to hold the door open, the bail J is engaged with the hook I upon the rear face of the door.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim to be new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In combination with a door stop, a bail pivotally connected to the stop and adapted to engage a hook upon the door, substantially as shown and described and for the purpose specified.
