SHAlVl-HOLDER FOR BEDS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
I-atented July 25, 1905.
Application filed October 15, 1904:. Serial No. 223,596.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, IDA J EFFREYS S'rovALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Highland Springs, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sham-Holders for Beds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sham-holders fo beds.
The objects of the invention are to improve and simplify the construction of such devices; furthermore, to decrease the expense attending their manufacture.
V With'the foregoing and other minor objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the particular combination and arrangement of parts and in the precise details of construction hereinafter described and claimed as a practical embodiment thereof.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an iron bed, showing the improved sham-holding means applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a detail elevation, partly in section, of the improved device. Fig. 3 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the supporting means for the device.
Like reference numerals indicate corresponding parts in the different views.
As shown in the drawings, the improved sham-holder comprises a tubular member 1, having a central bore 2 and being provided with suitable attaching means for the sham, such as the rings 3. The sham-holder also includes end members 4, which are of substantially the same diameter as the tubular member 1 and are each formed with an extension 5, which projects into the bore 2 of the tubular member 1. Each of the end members is also formed with a shoulder 6, which is adapted to abut against the end of the tubular memher 1 when said end members are adjusted toward each other. The outer end of each member 4 preferably is bent downward, as shown, and extends through a tubular sleeve member 7, which forms part of an adjustable supporting means, comprising an open-sided clamp 8, adapted to lit over the end rail 9 of the bed. The open-sided clamping member 8 is provided with a tightening-screw 10, by means of which it may be held in place upon the end rail 9, a similar tightening-screw 11 being used in connection with the tubular sleeve 7 to secure proper vertical adjustment of the downwardly bent side members 4. Each of the side members 4: at its upper end preferably is provided with suitable attaching means for the sham, such as the ring 12.
In applying the improved sham-holder tostruction the device of this invention constitutes an improvement over prior devices intended for a similar purpose.
Minor changes in the precise embodiment of invention illustrated and described may be made within the scope of the following claim without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing'any of its advantages.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A sham-holder for beds, comprising a tubular member, having a central bore, attachingrings on said tubular member, end members of the same diameter as the tubular member, and each having an extension fitting into the bore of said tubular member, and a shoulder adapted to abut against the end of said tubular member, each of said end members having a downwardly-bent end, an attaching-ring upon each of said end members, a tubular sleeve surrounding each of said end members, a tightening-screw in each of said tubular sleeves, an open-sided clamping member secured to each of said sleeves, and a tighteningscrew in each of said clamping members.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
IDA J EFFREYS STOVALL.
