BOX OR TRAY FOR SAMPLE-CASES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 794,451, dated July 11, 1905.
Application filed February 3, 1905. Serial. No. 243,980.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that LVVILLTAMH. OLnMENTs, a citizen of the United States, residing in Nutley, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes or Trays for Sample-Cases; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention involves certain improvements in trays or boxes for sample-cases of the kind set forth in United States Letters Patent to Henry Braen, No. 574,130.
The improvements may be applied in the construction of trays and boxes generally, whether with or without covers, and in that connection have for their object to strengthen the tray or box, increase its rigidity and durability, and reduce the cost of manufacture, and in connection with boxes or trays for sample-cases to better adapt them for nesting together in the closed position of the case without their telescoping.
The invention will be found fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved box or tray. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view thereof at, say, its middle portion. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the box or tray with one of its end members removed. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the removed end member; and Fig. 5 is a view, partly in side elevation and partly in vertical section, of a series of such boxes or trays nested together.
The box or tray comprises three separate members abodymembencomprising the bottom and side walls, and two end members,forming the end walls. For the body member a sheet of metal is bent up at right angles parallel to two opposite sides, thereby forming the bottom wall a and two side walls 6. The edges of the side walls are bent outwardly and downwardly, as at 0, so that a grooved is left. This forms a reinforcing-flange along the top of the side wall, which by being hollow by virtue of the groove (Z is not only stronger than it would be if the flange were turned over and compressed against the side wall, but serves-for interlocking the side and end Wall in the manner hereinafterdescribed. e
