SPECIFICATION" forming part of Letters atent N 0. 'L?9t,0'70, dated July 4, 19015.
Application filed March 18, 1903. Serial No. 14l'7,6'7i-.
.To all whom/ it may concern:
Be it known that l, Jason rlrssnn, of the town of Waterville, county of New lliaven, and titate of Connecticut, have invented new and useful improvements in Ilirackets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description when taken in connection with the aeeon1panying drawings, which form a part thereof, and in which.
ilTigure 1 represents a perspective view of a hook embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a side elevatirm of the same; .ldig. 3, a plan view of a socket, and Fig. i a side elevation of the hook with the socket attached.
in all figures similar letters of reference represent like parts.
This invention relates to brackets, and has for its object the production of a novel bracket having the improvements set forth and claimed hereinafter.
The base-plate and tang of the bracket-hook are integral, being stamped from a single piece of sheet metal. The base-plate is bent near its center, so as to form two outwardly-ex- 2 5 tendii'lg tl-shaped beads on both sides of the mortise from whence the tang is stamped, and. the tang extending outwardly from a point below the beads is curved, so as to extend to ward and beyond them. The end of thetang a0 is recurved slightly outward in order to more readily coact With the socket. The sockethead is stamped from a single piece of sheet metal, spherical in shape, and perforated to coact with the hook.
Referring to the drawings for a more particular description, the parts designated by the letter A represent the base-plate of the bracket-hook, B the beads, and B the apex of the bead. The beads are stamped up from 4 the base-plate by forming an indentation on the other side.
(I is the upper dow nwardly-sloping side, and U the lower upwardly-sloping side, of the a head.
l) is the tang of the book, which is stamped out of the base-plate, leaving the mortise Til,
and is formed in desired shape.
(l is the space between. the base-plate and the tang below the beads 15.
ll is the spherical socket-head of a rod, and l the iierforal'lion in said head. Upon mounting the socket ll on the tang l) the spherical head comes in contact with the bead l5 and owing to its globular or spherical form tends to force the tang away from the bead, thus permitting the outer end of the head to slip by the apex of the bead, whereupon the tang springs back into its original position to lock the soekethead in the space llbetween the tang, base, and bead. To release the socket, the reverse of the above operation is effected. The spherical head is lifted into contact with the under side of the bead and forces the tang outward, allowing the head to pass between the apex of the bead and the tang.
:ioth the upper and lower sides of the bead C and C may be so constructed as to slope toward its apex B, thus presenting beveled surfaces, which tend to guide the socket-head toward the tang.
iilaving new described my invention, what it claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat-- ent, is-- 1. in a bracket, the combination with a bracket-hook, having a substantially flat base plate with an integral transverse bead and a flexible tang; of a supporting member terminating in a perforated head adapted to coact with said tang and base, siiibstantially as described.
2. The combination with a sheet metal bracket-hook consisting of a substantially flat base-plate, with a transversely-extending bead and a tang projecting from below toward said bead; of a rod terminating in a perforated spherical head adapted to coact with said bracket-hook, substantially as described.
in witness whereof .l have hereunto set my hand on the 5th day of March, 1903.
JACOB .rlrtitilflli.
