Description

Quinn tatrsjairnt @frn EDMUND H. MEI-GS, OFEASYT BERLIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO ROYS AND WILCOX COMPANY, OF THE SAME PLACE.
Leen-s Patent No. 79,376, dated June so, 1858.
IMPROVEMENT IN TINSMITHS STAKE.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CON CERN:
Be it known that I, EDMUND H. MEIGS, of East Berlin, county of Hartford, and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Tinsmiths Stake; and'to enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe, by referring to tho drawings, in which the same letters indi' cate Alike parts in 'eachof the figures.
The nature of this invention consists in providing a stake'ior tinsmiths use, of equal dimensions with those in common use, and at the same time greatly reduced in weight.
The object'desiredto be Vattained thereby is to cheapen the manufacture, to render them lighter for trans-- portation, and'more convenient for use, also to deaden the somid, which is very anuoyng, vparticularly in a. shop where several-ot` them arein use' .at-the Sametime.
Where tools are continually being changed back and forth, one for another, the heft of the tool. makes quite a perceptible difference in the amount of labor of the workmen. If they are heavy, their strength and ambition to perform a given amount ot' work will be s'ooner exhausted than it would be ifthe tools were lighter and more convenient to handle, providing that they are so constructed as to enable them with the light tools to perform the same work equally as well as they could do with the heavy tools; besides, their labor would be more pleasant and agreeable.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a side view.
Figure 2 is a. side sectional view. f
The form and shape of this stock are like those in common use, and dier in the followingrespect: It is cast hollow, and of such thickness asto give iirmness and solidity upon which to perform the' ordinaiy work for which they are designed, viz, forming or working sheet metal, &c., the process of forming `or constructing which isvery much like what is commonly practised in forming or casting articles hollow. A. large amount of these tools are manufactured for the market, and it will at once be seen that a great reduction in the cost of stock and expense in transportation is produced thereby.
I believe I have thus shown the nature, construction, and advantage of this lnvention, so asto enable others skilled to make and use the same therefrom. l
What I claim, therefore, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is`- As a new improved article ofA manufacture, a tinsmiths' s take, constructed substantially as and for the purpose described. i
