Description

No. 792,405. PATENTED JUNE 13, 1905.
W. J. DICK.
CLOTHES RACK ATTACHMENT FOR BBDSTEADS.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 21, 1904.
.%Q% Atmrney LV/Y/VESSES @MVWM UNITED STATES Patented June 13, 1905.
\VILLIAM J. DICK, OF BAYONNE, NEIV JERSEY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 792,405, dated June 13, 1905.
Application filed September 21, 1904. Serial No. 225,337.
To (0M whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, IVILLIAMJ. DICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New J ersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Rack Attachments for Bedsteads, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in clothes-racks; and it consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts of which it is composed, all as will be hereinafter fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which Figure 1 represents an end view of a metallic bedstead, showing my improved clotheshooks applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a bedstead, showing my device applied. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view showing the device enlarged. Fig. 4: is also a vertical sectional view showing the slot. Fig. 5 is a front view of the device, having the attachments removed and showing the slot in the face of the supporting device. Fig. 6 is an enlarged horizontal sectional View of the clamp.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates a vertical tubular support which is provided with an arm a at the lower portion and an upper arm 5, providing a clamp by which the support is removably secured to a post of a bedstead. This tubular support is designed to receive a vertical rod 0, having an upper bent end (Z, provided with hooks a, and at the lower end of said rod is a ball or block f, which serves to steady the rod within said tubular support. At the upper end of the support is a thumb-screw g, which holds the rod in position after the same is adjusted. Attached to the block within the tube is an arm lb, that supports a table e', the arm passing through a vertical slot j in said tube, and when the rod is raised or lowered the table is adjusted to the desired height, the thumb-screw serving to hold it in place.
The attaching-clamp comprises parallel arms Z: I, having their outer ends screw-threaded, and a central arm Z, provided with semicircular head m, a cross-plate n, having holes through which these ends pass, and a central thumb-screw 0, having a semicircular head 1), which when the thumb-screw is turned forces the head against the bed-post w and in connection with the head on clamp the post, thus holding the support firmly thereto.
It will thus be seen from the above description, when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, that my device can be readily attached and detached from the post of a bedstead, and the hooks and tables can be adjusted to any desired height. It is simple in construction and convenient to hang the garments upon on retiring. Y
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with the bed-post, of the tubular support provided with the clamp and lower arm, the rod having the clothes-hooks at the upper end and at the lower end abracket provided with the table whereby, when the hooks are adjusted the table is simultaneously raised or lowered, and the thumb-screw for adjusting and holding the rod in a fixed position, substantially as described.
2. The within-described clothes-hooks consisting of the tubular support provided with the clamp, comprising the parallel screwthreaded arms and semicircular head, the crossplate and nuts therefor, the thumb-screw provided with the semicircular head and the vertical rod arranged Within the tubular support, having hooks at its upper end, a block at its lower end and the thumb-screw adapted to engage said rod whereby the latter is held in position after adjustment, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM J. DICK.
