Patented Feb. 4, 1851.
No.- 7,921- r N, PETERS Phnio-Liihograp wr, Wathinglon. D, C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DELAMAR KINNEAB, OF CIROLEVILLE, OHIO.
LARD-LAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 7 ,921, dated February 4, 1851.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DELAMAR KINNEAR, of Circleville, in the county of Pickaway and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Lamps, which is described as follows, reference be ing had to the'annexed drawings of the same, making part of this specification.
Figure 1 isa perspective view of the lamp. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of ditto. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the slide coveror stopper. 1
Similar letters in the several figures refer to corresponding parts.
The nature of my invention and improvement consists in forming a chamber 71 of the form of a section of a frustrum of a pyramid in its cross section above the ordinary chamber that contains the liquid for producing the light so as to make the sides of said chamber perform the two ofiices of side chambers for preventing the spilling or waste of the liquid lard, or oil, when the axis of the lamp is made to deviate from a perpendicularline and assume a horizontal.
position, or an approximation thereto, in
handling the lamp carlessly, and as side channels, or dovetail. grooves, forthe slide or cover to move in when a slide cover or stopper is substituted for a. screw cap stopper.
a is the main reservoir for holding the lard or other article employed to produce" the required light. 6 is a flat wick tube extending down into the reservoir so as to act as a wick holder and lard heater, being secured to the bottom of the upper reservoir.
0 is a round wick tube for a round wick to be used as a night light when the fiat wick light is extinguished. l
d is a slide for opening andclosing the e is a metallic heater for keeping the lard in a liquid state during the night, said heater reservoir a on either side of the wick tubes 1), c, for preventing the spilling or waste of the oil whenthe stem of the lamp is held in a horizontal or inclined position; and also the dovetailed slide d, and the aforesaid angular channels or grooves 2'. l
I claim as myinvention- 1. In combination with a lamp ofthe peculiar formandconstruction represented in the annexed drawings; or other form substantially the same, said channels or grooves serving also to receive and hold the sliding cover cZ used} for closing the supply opening insteadof the ordinary screw cap; and in combination with the aforesaid angular channels.
2. I also claim the said sliding cover d when made with correspondingly shaped. I
sides to fitand move in said channels, all as herein described and represented.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name before two subscribing wit nesses.
DELAMAR KINNEAR. Witnesses: I
T. O. DONN,
