PATENT @rricn.
STACY E. CRANE AND SYLVESTER L. HURD, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
ADJUSTABLE MIRROR-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 789,008, dated May 2, 1905.
Application filed September 17, 1904. Serial No. 224,890.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that we, STACY E. CRANE and SYLVESTER L. HURD, citizens of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Mirror-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to adjustable mirrorholders.
The objects of the invention are to improve and simplify the means for adjustably connecting the pivoted arms of the holder with the standard and to improve and simplify the means for clamping the mirror in position.
With the foregoing and other minor objects in View, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangement of parts and in the precise details of construction hereinafter described and claimed as a practical embodiment of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a per spective View of the complete device applied to a bureau. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the supporting member. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the joint between the hinged arms. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the fixed and movable clamping members and the means of attaching them to the supporting-arms. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the standard.
Like referencenumerals indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
The standard of the improved device preferably is constructed in the form of a travelerloop 1, the ends of which are connected in any suitable manner to a plate 2, which is adapted to be attached by screws or other suitable devices to a bureau or other support. Arranged upon the standard 1 is an adjustable supporting member 3, which is provided with a hook member 1, adapted partly to surround the standard 1. The supporting member 3 is also provided with a pivoted locking. member 5, which is adapted to hold the standard 1 securely in the embrace of the hook member 1 thereof. Formed upon the lower portion of the supporting member 3 is a bearing member 6, which is formed with a notch so as to adapt it to straddle the standard 1. Connected with the supporting member 3 in any suitable manner is a pair of arms 7 to the outer end of which is pivoted, by means of a bolt 8, a similar pair of arms 9, the outer ends of which converge and are formed integral with each at their outer ends to receive a bolt 10, which is held in place by a wing-nut 11. Suitable washers 12 are placed on opposite sides of the arms 9. Extending through a suitable perforation in the head 13 of the bolt 10 is a vertically-depending rod 14:, on which is mounted a fixed clamping member 15. The lower end of the rod 14 is screw-threaded to receive a pair of nuts 16, between which is mounted a movable clamping member 16, which is formed intermediateits ends with a loop 17 for this purpose. The mirror 18 is held between the fixed and movable clamping members 15 and 16 and may be removed therefrom whenever desired.
. The vertical adjustment of the mirror is secured by moving the locking member 5 out of contact with the standard 1 and adjusting the supporting member to the desired height.
The device of this invention is simple, durable, strong, and inexpensive in construction and thoroughly eificient in operation. It is adapted to be readily applied to and removed from the standard and can be folded so as to occupy but little space when not in use.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of a standard a supporting member thereon, pivoted arms connected with the supporting member, a vertically-depending rod connected with the pivoted arms, a fixed clamping member on said 1'03, and movable clamping member on said ro 2. The combination of a standard, a supporting member vertically adjustable thereon, pivoted arms connected with the supporting member, a bolt connected with the arms, a vertically-depending rod extending through the bolt, a fixed clamping member on the rod, and a movable clamping member on the rod.
at its lower end, a fixed clamping member upon said rod, a plurality of nuts on the 5 screw -,threaded portion of said rod, and a movable clamping member having a loop surrounding the rod between the nuts.
In testimony whereof We afiix'our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
